"Scenery & Hiking"

The Japanese Garden has very beautiful scenery and it is a great place to hike with the kids. It may not be very suitable for toddlers and very hard with a stroller. You can get a free pass through washington county cooperative libraries. You'll need to reserve in advance. The pass has to be picked & returned on the same day.

"Hidden Treasure"

The Portland Japanese Tea Garden is incredible.  On a clear day it offers a perfect and gorgeous view of Mt Hood.  Lots of trails to walk and quiet places to sit.  A true sanctuary and hidden getaway.  LOVE the trickling water and greenery all around.  Highly recommend!!  It's always been a wonderful place for our little ones to explore nature!

"A Must See!"

Gorgeous.  Spent Xmas morning here - in the cool, frost of the day.  It was spectacular and beautiful.  Love it!  Will go at least once a season!

A great place to use a baby carrier.  Lots of stairs. Not really stroller friendly.

Quiet - Sanctuary.

Beautiful grounds.

"Worth the admission (and kids under 6 are free!)"

You might not think a formal garden would be fun for kids but our toddler really enjoyed it - I even think they infused him w/ peace and harmony while we were there.  There are 5 different gardens each with its own feel.  He loved watching the koi, exploring the foot paths and sitting in a "new house" each time.  At the time of our visit, they had a spectactular bonsai exhibit - amazingly pruned trees that were tiny yet decades old.  A must-see, plus you can pair with the nearby Rose Garden for a full day.
