Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences which ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.
Let me start off by saying from the outside this place looked awesome.
We had to pay for parking which was a little pricey. But what city isn't parking expensive? The place is 3 floors. When you first walk in there have a giant jungle gym sort of thing in the center which looks awesome. Except my kids were toddlers & so there was no way they would try not. If your kids are older i bet they would have a blast. For younger kids the best section is the water works, & the tot zone. The tot zone is inclosed & they have many different things for kids to explore. The waterworks was also a ton of fun. They provide coats & shoes for your kids to borrow so they won't get soaked (we didn't borrow them because it grossed me out).
For the $$ I thought it was just ok. The place is small, so you can see the whole thing in a couple hours. We have gone back several times & they don't really change much. Compared to other children's museums (like the one in Philadelphia) this one is the least impressive. But if you do go, your kids will probably enjoy themselves, just not for very long.
My boys are 4 and 1 and we only had a couple hours, but we didn't want to leave. We only found the Tot room at the end and my one year old was entranced. I'm sad that we didn't get more time there.
There are so many things to do and not once did I have to say "don't touch". It's well worth the entry fee, plus your bracelet has a number that matches your child's so if you have older kids you can let them roam free and not worry that they will leave with someone else.
Port Discovery is truly an amazing place. My kids always learn so much and have so much fun doing it! Like others have said this place is hands-on which really is the best way for kids to learn. The climbing wall is always a hit though thankfully I have no had to climb it myself! There is so much to do at Port Discovery that you could literally spend hours in there; we often do! Makes for a great trip and fieldtrip for all kids.
My three year old and I have been family members of Port Discovery children's museum for two years now. The museum caters to children of all ages and there is something for everyone, from the scientist, to the bookworm, to the adventurer! It's easy to spend the entire day at the museum. Security is excellent, and special events at the museum are always lots of fun and very creative. The permanent exhibits continue to keep us entertained despite many return visits.
This children's museum is so much fun. It provides lots of hands-on activities for kids with all sorts of interests. Building, puzzle solving, drawing, creating, learning, and climbing - you can find it all under this Baltimore roof. Parents should be prepared, though.
Note: There is a GIANT climbing structure in the middle of the museum that has exits on other floors. So parents should wear their climbing shoes too... or have a co-conspirator at one of the other exits.
We visited this museum in November 2010 for the first time. Our only regret was not arriving sooner so our family could spend more time inside. There was plenty as far as main exhibits to last us the entire day. But on top of that there were special crafts and water exhibits we didn't even get a chance to visit because there was so much to do and see.
Lots of interactive play, great for all ages and a very clean and friendly enviornment. I highly recommend it! Just make sure you give yourself an entire day to explore this fun children's museum!
Port Discovery has a ton of things to do, and is very fun. There isn't too much for kids under 4, or small sized children. It was difficult for my child to reach many of the activities. It is a bit difficult to get to, but it is worth the money. We especially enjoyed the water works room.
we had my sons birthday party at port discovery and were very pleased! for $25 per kid we got admission to museum for each child and there parent. a happy meal for each child and an activity (the kids got to make there own cotton candy) hands down an awesome party!
Port Discovery is fantastic! We purchased a membership after our first visit and plan to keep it for several years to come. The museum is designed for children ages 1-10+, with activities to keep every age group engaged and excited. The only challenge for parents is keeping the little ones away from the large, 3-story climber in the middle of the museum (and keeping track of the not-so-little ones inside of it). Parking nearby can also be expensive, but it is totally worth it for a morning (or day) of pure fun!
When you go in to buy your tickets, it appears very small. I was worried about the cost and it not being worth it. But when you gt inside, it was very large!!! It was great for all three of my kids (6, 8, 11) and they could have stayed even longer. There are different "stations" (store, farm, train station, etc) and in the center of it all is a huge climbing thing. Even my husband was climbing with the kids.
I brought my first grade class here for a class trip and they loved it! We only saw certain parts of Port Discovery so I know there was more to see. There is a huge climbing gym in the center of the place that is awesome! Parents can even have fun trying to climb with the kids. There were also educational activities planned because it was a field trip. Definitely worth going!
