Poppenhusen Institute

This magnificent building is both a historical site and an active community center.  A designated NYC landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the institute was originally served as as village hall and vocational school.  Attractions include 19th century jail cells and the site of the first free kindergarten in the United States.  Offerings include guided tours, lectures, and a variety of programs for all ages.  Recent children's programs have included ventriloquist and magic shows, acting and art workshops, and an ever-popular live reptile education show.
