"Lots of stairs"

We went with our elementary age children to see the lighthouse and museum.  It is great going down the steps, but of course much harder going back up.  There is a small museum inside the lighthouse - be sure to see the whale lice.  The views are beautiful. It is a fun place to visit and worth the walk.

"Fun with the Family"

Until the lighthouse was built in 1875, many shipwrecks occurred off the Point Reyes Headlands. The lighthouse is reachable by 308 steps leading downhill from a high
bluff, and it can be a windy, windy spot. During whale-watching season, December through March, a shuttle bus operates between the lighthouse and the beach. Some
20,000 California gray whales travel the Pacific coastline south to breed in Mexico, returning a few months later with their babies to the Arctic.

"A Beacon of Light"

Get ready to walk some stairs!  The light house and the beaches are worth seeing.  When you head out to the light house, where walking shoes!  You think that the walk doesn't look too far or too tiring but think again!  Going down to the light house is easy but going back up....not so fun!  Once you get down to the light house, enjoy the beautiful scenary and catch a glimpse of a whale or two!!

"Lighthouse & whale migration"

A fantastic adventure for older kids and adults.  There is a small museum with fun things for the kids (and adults) to see and learn about.  There is even a whale baleen! To get to the lighthouse, you will have to be willing to climb down over 300 steps and then back up again when you're done exploring the lighthouse.  You don't have to go down to the lighthouse to enjoy the beautiful view of the coast.  There is a picnic area with tables at the top at the observation platform, so bring a picnic and enjoy the view!  Be prepared for variations in the temperature as it is often windy, foggy and cold in the morning, but by afternoon in the summer it can be sunny and warm. During the winter months of January and February, you might just be lucky enough to see the migration of the Gray Whales- pretty cool!  The lighthouse is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Either before or after exploring the lighthouse, you can take a bus to Chimney Rock to view the elephant seals from January - April.  This is always fun for the kids, as well as adults.
