visiting hours: May to Thanksgiving- sunrise to sunset every day but Monday; Thanksgiving to May- sunrise to sunset Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday
A lovely, short, self-guided nature trail and a small museum. You are welcome to observe the activities here, which include banding rufous-sided towhees, song sparrows, and other birds. This is the Palomarin Trailhead, leading to four freshwater lakes that are waterfowl habitats and to Double Point Bay, where harbor seals breed and tidepools are inviting to look into (don’t touch). Three miles from the trailhead, watch for Bass Lake, a secret swimming spot. There are portable potties near the trailhead.
