On Route 340 between Bird-in- Hand and Intercourse, you’ll find Plain & Fancy Farm with its Pennsylvania Dutch crafts and food. There are a lot of things to do at Plain & Fancy, including buggy rides, “The Amish Experience,” and Amish dining. Also at Plain & Fancy, you can visit the Amish Country Homestead (717–768–3600, ext. 10).
You can also take a guided bus tour of Amish country starting at Plain & Fancy Farm. Admission to each attraction may be purchased separately, or you may choose a combination ticket to the theater and homestead or a super-saver ticket that includes the theater, homestead, and guided bus tour. While here, pick up a copy of the Amish Country News.
Amish Country Tours ($$$) depart from the Amish Experience Theater, stopping at roadside stands, bakeshops, and craft shops along the scenic roads of the Amish farmlands. Children receive a worksheet and a small gift to make the tour more fun.
Lancaster County offers several opportunities to ride in a Pennsylvania Dutch buggy, but only one ride is owned and operated by an Amish family: Aaron and Jessica’s Buggy Rides at Plain & Fancy Farm. The Web site offers a virtual tour and answers questions about the Amish and Mennonites.
