"Swashbuckling Fun"

Situated near the Vista Bahn Ski lift is an energy burning, make-believe wonderland called Pirate Ship Park.  There are three deck levels, multiple climbing nets, slides, plank and a sea serpent.  I took my kids aged, 10, 7, and 2 to Pirate Ship Park and enjoyed listening to the storyline they created while running up and down the decks of this ship structure.   The creators of this park knew how to create a lot of fun in a small space.

The park has a couple toddler-sized swings located in the shade which my toddler loved.  It also has a few small secret paths along the creek in the surrounding vegetation.  But the focal point of the park, the pirate ship itself, keeps kids busy running up and down and along the plank, making believe as they go.

The only downfall to this park is it is small and doesn’t have restroom facilities.  However, it is located relatively close to public restrooms at Vail Village.  The park only has a couple of picnic tables, but there is plenty of open space nearby with room to spread a blanket and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.

In summary, if your kids are role-playing imaginative fanatics (what kid isn’t?), take the time to visit the Pirate Ship Park in Vail.  You’ll discover storylines richer than the Pirates of the Caribbean.
