Carefully restored to its seventeenth-century roots as a farm and gristmill, Philipsburg Manor offers children a chance to check out colonial life firsthand. Help the miller grind grain at the water-powered mill, visit the farm animals, or plan a picnic on the plantation grounds.
Across the street from the estate is the Old Dutch Church, believed to be the oldest in New York State. Legend has it that the ghost of a headless Hessian soldier haunts the site, which inspired Washington Irving to write The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
