The historians at Peter Wentz Farmstead have done an exceptional job researching and restoring this farm to its appearance in 1777, when General Washington occupied the house before and after the Battle of Germantown.
If you thought colonial farms were painted in subdued tones, you’ll be amazed at the paint colors and wild patterns on the walls: dots, zigzags, stripes, and more.
Special events are scheduled throughout the year, when you can watch costumed volunteers demonstrate colonial crafts using authentic techniques. You can watch spinning, weaving, candle making, and cooking, as well as unusual arts such as scherenschnitte, the German art of paper cutting. The kids especially like the farm animals.
Annual events include a Market Day with Revolutionary War activities on the first Saturday in June, the Colonial Craft Festival on the first Saturday in October, and Candlelight House Tours on the first Saturday in December.
