This program at Colonial Williamsburg allows visitors to “drop in” on several eighteenth-century characters. Lanterns light the way, partly for atmosphere and partly so guests won’t step in the authentic horse poop. In the taverns you may meet Mrs. Jonathan Edwards, a merchant’s wife, who relates a Cherokee legend of how the Milky Way came to be; a tipsy sailor who tells a tall tale of Blackbeard, booty, and pirates; and Emma Johnston, who gossips about a woman who puts on airs by wearing French fashions.
