Pre-School Programs
Pre-school programs are available for young children age four to six. Children get to experience the past through fun activities in an historic setting. Individual programs can be tailored to meet the needs of your group. These programs are available throughout the year, rain or shine. Registration and pre-payment are required. The cost is $6.00 per child, with one free adult admitted with every five children. Additional adults are $6.00.
Pennsylvania was William Penn’s “holy experiment,” a colony founded on Quaker moral principles. Although he only lived here for a total of about four years, Pennsbury Manor was never far from his thoughts. Today his home has been restored, complete with icehouse, stable, smokehouse, garden, and livestock. The boathouse contains a replica of the vessel Penn used to commute to Philadelphia. The oven in the bake-and-brew house can bake up to thirty loaves of bread at a time.
On Sunday afternoons from April to October, Pennsbury Manor offers living history just for families. It has an activity room and a worker’s cottage where kids can try seventeenth-century skills, such as writing with a quill pen. Geese, peacocks, sheep, and Red Devon cattle—authentic breeds wherever possible—populate the farm. In December the farm is lit by glowing candles and roaring yule logs.
