Oxnard Beach Park features a pirate-lover’s paradise of a play area. My kids (ages 6 & 2.5 when we visited) let their imaginations run wild investigating the cannons, steering the ship and dangling tummy side down on the swings.
But my favorite part of this park is its proximity to the beach. At the far end of the park, a short trail leads through the sand dunes down to the beach. Last year, the kids spent more time here than on the play structures. We searched for animal tracks, flowers, seashells, rocks and sea glass. The kids were content to play follow the leader until we had to drag them home for lunch.
This spot also makes a perfect place for kite flying and picnics.
Oxnard Beach Park and Ed Hunt Rehab Point consist of a large grassy picnic area with tons of palm trees - the wide walkways lead from the park all the way to the beach (with room for wheelchairs). This has been a favorite for picnics, parties, and athletic events for a long time.
The only thing missing was a playground! Until now - and it's SUCH a great place to play. The kids will really feel like pirates. There are cannons, pirate flags, a sea turtle, and sea serpent swimming on the recycled rubber play surface. This neighborhood is long overdue for a playground of this scope. So it's crawling with happy families - especially on the weekends. The City of Oxnard charges for a small fee for parking, so pay by the hour at the yellow machine. And don't forget to take a stroll down to the beach!
