My kids love the Omaha Children's Museum. I think it's a lot of fun, too. They usually have different exhibits upstairs- we have seen Titanic and Dinosaurs. They also have an awesome interactive area in the first floor. A very cool pretend grocery store and play house and a huge room with different scientific things.
The only downfall of the museum is parking is a bit inadequate- they could definitely use a larger lot, and it is a bit expensive, around $10-12. So bottom line, stay awhile to get your money's worth.
On a trip to Omaha i was able to see what Omaha had to offer...coming form a big city i was not impressed but i did find an Italian buffet that was great (and i have yet to find another Italian buffet anywhere...Omaha had nice food) and i also found this museum which was OK...children will be distracted and entertained.
The Omaha Children's Museum is a wonderful place to take kids from toddlers to pre-tweens. There are many hands on exhibits including an informative science demonstration that at the time we went featured electricity. The current exhibition is the Big Backyard. The interactive exhibits here have to do with outdoor fun and safety. There are also giant animals that kids can climb all over.. The four and five year olds enjoyed running around freely throughout the exhibit after they did a few of the activities. I think it was worth the 10 dollar charge for admission for each of us. We were there for about six hours. We were allowed to bring snacks and water in with us which helped with the costs. Some of the other folks had a discount coupons that took $2 off the admission price.
One other note
While we were there was a really fun group of homeschool kids and their parents. The kids ranged in ages from four to about twelve. All of them had different activities that they had to complete. One of the parents told me that someone in the group developed the curriculum for the group. The younger kids enjoyed playing with our crew of two four year olds and one five year old. Our kids enjoyed playing with their new 'friends'. I think this really added to our visit because all of the our kids we were on their best behavior while hanging out with the big kids. Overall an enjoyable visit.
We live about two hours away and the museum trip was part of a two day visit to Omaha.
We visited this Children's Museum with high expectations and only part of those were met. It was pretty pricey to get in and cost extra for some of the exhibits which was surprising to us. The art area was excellent and they even had people on hand to help the kids do crafts, etc and a guest artist to teach them a new kind of Indian art which was very fun, even for the adults. They also have a really fun "ball" course where you twist and turn machines to make balls go up, down and even drop from the ceiling! My kids really liked that. All in all, it was pricey but still a good way to spend some time with the kids.
Who knew a children's museum could be this much fun? We have been taking our triplet boys there since they were only four months old and our daughter who is now 12 still enjoys it just as much! Every time we go, there is something new to explore - from the interactive plays, to the traveling exhibits. This place is fun for all anytime of the year!!!
