Guided tours last approximately 45 minutes. House tours meet at the reception desk and garden tours meet at the West Porch Beech Tree.
No sports activities (e.g., ball playing, Frisbee tossing, biking, rollerblading, jogging, kite flying) allowed in the gardens. Strollers, large bags and backpacks are not permitted in Westbury House.
Steel magnate John S. Phipps built this palatial country estate as a wedding present for his heiress wife, Margarita Grace, in 1904. The Charles II manor house and surounding gardens were patterned after her childhood home in England, and the results are breathtaking. The mansion is filled with beautiful furniture, art, and family mementos, and the formal English gardens surrounding the house are considered to be the best in the country.
Children will enjoy exploring playhouses, from a miniature thatched cottage complete with a tiny tea party for dolls inside to three rustic kid-size log cabins.
