There is a petting zoo on-site with goats, sheep and llamas as well.
The geyser erupted about every 15 mins, and the petting zoo consisted of feeding goats through a wire fence. The entrance and gift store were more impressive (if that) than the geyser itself. Not worth the 1+ hr drive and $35 entrance fee for 2 seniors, 2 adults and 2 children. I was bored within 15 mins and so were the kids. Maybe would have been better if we made a picnic of it.
Wow! What an incredible experience! We were fortunate enough to take the kids to see Old Faithful in Calistoga. We got there right after it erupted, so we had to wait another 40 minutes to see it happen again. During the wait, we read up on all the history of the geyser and petted the animals in the small petting zoo. We brought a picnic lunch with us and enjoyed the warm weather. We took GREAT photos of the family with the erupting geyser in the background. Lovely site.
One of only three regularly erupting geysers in the world. Every forty minutes or so, acolumn of 350-degree water and steam roars more than 60 feet into the air. That’s it.
The Old Faithful Geyser of California is one of 3 geysers in the world that "performs" at regular intervals. It is an interesting and very quick stop on the way to wherever you are headed in the area. Our family did enjoy reading the information provided on the use of geyers as potential predictors of earthquakes.
