"Fun with the Family"

Housed in the historic Winchester-Frederick Court House, this museum focuses on the life of common soldiers, especially those who were prisoners of war. Winchester changed hands more than seventy times during the war, and prisoners from both sides were housed in this building. Graffiti on the walls testifies to their presence and their thoughts on the war. (On the south wall is a strongly worded curse aimed at Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy.) There are also armaments and other relics of the war. Kids will enjoy ringing the courthouse bell, and the gift shop has an excellent selection of children’s books, stickers, and games.
