Ocean Isle Beach, one of the most popular vacation spots of the North Carolina coast, is located in the middle of the Brunswick County Beaches. As you drive over the bridge and the marshes to the island, you can smell the sweet salty air, a little thicker in the summer months because of the humidity, and see the sparkling blue Atlantic Ocean. It is the perfect destination spot for families or friends looking to get away from the hubbub of daily life. Relax in a hammock or take a walk on the sandy beaches and experience true relaxation. Take the family to the putt-putt or waterslide and grab ice cream after a fun filled day of sliding. Enjoy your favorite book while you listen to the waves rush over the white sands.

"Calm, Clean and Very Welcoming"

We are in the middle of three day getaway on Ocean Isle and I couldn't be more pleased. The small island is lovely and the beach is not at all crowded. Traveling in early June probably helps, but I have a feeling this beach is pleasant even in the busy season.

The island is not at all commercial, but does have a mini-golf course, a nice museum, and enough restaurants to keep you well fed (I'll be reviewing all of those attractions separately). The locals are also very friendly and welcoming of guests to the island.

For nature enthusiasts, Ocean Isle is also home to a number of Loggerhead Sea Turtle nests. If you haven't visited a North Carolina island during nesting season, it is really a must-see. These islands have a committed group of volunteers who watch for turtles and new nests, ensure that the nests are in a viable location, move them if they need to be moved, and keep track of all of the turtle activity.

This has been a great little getaway, and we will definitely return to Ocean Isle for a longer vacation sometime soon!

"Childhood favorite, silly ordinance"

I have been visiting Ocean Isle Beach since I was 6 years old. My grandparents took us there every summer and I have the fondest memories of the area. It is still a great beach get-away place. Now that I am an adult, I wanted to take my children to the same area where I vacationed as a child. The island is pretty quiet, yet it is only a 30 minute drive to Myrtle Beach. The reason that I gave it 3 stars is because the "uppity" community in OIB created an ordinance forbidding the use of tents on the beach. We have several children, toddlers, and infants in our family and we like to have a pop-up tent available on the beach to shield the little ones from the sun. For this reason alone, we do not vacation at OIB anymore. It's simply not a possibility to keep little ones under a small umbrella.  Was it really necessary to forbid these tents? Are they that much of a nuisance? I hope so, because they will no longer be getting our patronage.

"More Surf, Sand & Sunshine"

This island is located just north of Sunset Beach. Ocean Isle Beach provides more surf, sand, and sunshine. Here you can enjoy 7 miles of beaches and fish from the surf or pier. To get out on the ocean and try your fishing luck in deeper water, drop by Ocean Isle Fishing Center on the Causeway (910–575–3474). It offers full- and half-day fishing trips. If you’d like to try your hand at crabbing, it probably can be done just outside your back door. Everything you need is here on this island, including restaurants, specialty shops, a miniature golf course, and a water slide.

"Beautiful, quiet beach"

Ocean Isle Beach is a wonderful beach for families.  It is much quieter and less commercialized than many other beaches on the East Coast.  We rented a house in a community with a pool through Cooke Realty.  There are several good restaurants at the beach and more just a short drive into town.
