Ample free parking.
Hold children's hands due to gusty wind.
If your little ones can stand the VERY strong winds, this quick stop is a very neat experience. Just watch for the bees; too bad the wind isn't strong enough where they're buzzing around to blow them out of the way! :-) Take the warnings to hold on to your kiddos seriously...the winds are so strong that I can see how a child can be knocked off his or her feet.
For visitor, now parking is not free ( kaamaina is free), but view from this lookout is always beautiful and breath taking. You will see entire Kaneohe town and even china man's hat.
( the small island looks like a hat and it is my favorite! ) Always strong wind blows from bottom, so make sure you hold tight your camera and wear a jacket : )
This place is real easy to drive to from Honolulu & offers a great view. There is a parking fee, so it is not actually free. I walked around for about 10 minutes, enjoyed the view & was outta there. Not worth making an all day adventure out of it, but if you have a car & have some free time, it is worth driving to for a quick 1 hour excursion.
Now this stop is easy to miss but a must see! The Pali look out is so much fun, but hold on to the kids because they blow away! This look out has an awesome view but th best part for me is the wind, you can basically lean into the wind and it will hold you up! When I was younger there use to be a awesome path down to the bottom of the valley but the last time I was there it was closed :( But this is a lot of fun and too good to miss. Be advised the road is oneway and basically a loop and you will end up going the wrong direction so remeber if you need to keep going your original direction to get off and turn around agian :)
I have been to Pali a couple times and it is always extremely windy. Just be forewarned. That being said, the views are amazing. I wouldn't make a trip specifally to Pali because there isn't much to do there besides look at the view and take alittle walk but if you are heading over to Kailua then you should really stop. There is a sign near the parking area that says Beware of Bees. It always cracks me up because I imagine bees just being blown around like crazy and never being able to make it back to their hives. I have never actually seen bees at Pali but I do reccomend take silly pictures next to the Beware of Bees sign.
Pali Lookout is a fun "jungle" drive followed by a spectacular gander of ocean views. This is one of those trips that my kids either love (because they find their own things to do) or hate, because they are not interested and they don't want to follow the rules (like no squeezing through or climbing the rail). Good news, grown-ups can enjoy it before the kids loose interest. I think someone mentioned this, but there is a great nearby hike to take kids on - nice, easy trail. If you are going to do the hike, make sure you take snacks. I can't remember if there is a bathroom at the lookout or not, but there definitely aren't any other amenities.
Located off the Pali Highway, a few miles beyond the Queen Emma Summer Palace(heading west). The off-ramp to the lookout is well marked from the main road.
Hold on to your hats as you climb up the paved walkway to the Pali Lookout. You’ll feel as if you’re at the windiest spot on the planet! (Although there’s no scientific information to prove this and it’s probably a bit of an exaggeration, the winds do whip fiercely here.) It’s so windy that water from the nearby waterfalls (if it’s rained lately) is often carried upward by the winds. The setting offers an unobstructed view of the lush windward side of the island and is nothing short of spectacular. Be sure to bring a jacket or sweater—the winds create quite a chill in the air, making it at least twenty degrees cooler here than it was back in Waikiki.
Amazing views and worth the trip. can be very windy so take a light jacket and the weather can change quickly around this area. This is a 10 minute stop so make sure to add it to a day out so that you can catch it on the way to wherever you are headed.
I've been to the Pali Lookout almost every time I've been to Oahu. It's just one of those things my in-laws like to do. The views are really beautiful - steep green hills set against the blue blue ocean in the distance and the valley below. It's hard to find a view more spectacular. There is a little hike you can take with the kids down the old hwy that winds down the side of the mountain. It's fairly easy for young kids because it's an old road and not as humid and mosquito infested as hiking in the jungle. I don't think I've been to the Pali lookout and not feel like I'm about to be blown over. Be sure to bring a something long sleeve because it can be chilly. Don't make a special trip, but if you're driving by, definitely stop for breath-taking views.
on a clear day, the views from here are spectacular. if you're headed this way anyway, it's definitely worth a stop. but since the view is the only thing here, i wouldn't make a separate trip. in cooler months, you'll probably be happier if you had a jacket to wear once you get out of your car.
