The North Point Mall makes for good indoor play with a children's play area as well as a number of interesting shops that will interest your child like American Girl and the Disney Store.
The mall is well maintained and you can see the directories throughout the mall if you want to look up a store. Lots of department stores like Macys, Dillard's and lots of childrens's stores like Disney store, Gymboree, Children's Place etc. If you enroll to the the North Point Mall Shoppers Club, they send you promotions like free $10 Gift Card from time to time. The mall provides a year-round, climate-controlled place to walk. Lots of walkers come around in summer and winter before the shops open so that they can enjoy a good walk and afterward enjoy their coffee at Starbucks. Lots of fun stuff for the kids too - like the carousel, play area etc.
I know a mall isn't your typical family fun destination, but we drive out of our way just to ride the Carousel. Perfect for a rainy day or a cold winter afternoon. In addition to the Carousel there is a play area for the kiddos. Of course there is shopping, but the kids won't mind if you make a few stops if a Carousel ride is in the future. Check the website for the hours of the ride.
I know it sounds silly to have this on the list, but truly it is my rainy day go to! The indoor playground is so much fun for the kids. Even when it's crowded, the kids seem to play together instead of vying for space on the climbing appartuses.
At the opposite end of the mall is a food court complete with carousel. A ride on the carousel, chick-fil-a and playtime are a great outing!
Of course all the little girls LOVE The American Girl Cafe and we have to see it every time we make a trip out there. Luckily there is also a Gamestop across the way for the boys. There is also a play area for the little ones and a carousel in the food court. Overall I think there is a lot of stuff to do for children while the grownups get some shopping in.
I'm all about the indoor mall play areas for kids. It's free, they can run around like banshees and you can get a bit of a break or talk to other parents. This one is a nice size with a bunch of those rubbery toddler friendly shapes and structures. it's enclosed on three of the four sides with some tables lining the outside perimeter. There's also a foodcourt down the way for afterwards if you need to do a lunch on premises.
