"Fun"

We love the beach in New Buffalo.  The drive is not too bad from the Chicago area to spend a day at the beach.  The cost for parking is kind of a drag, however there are a lot of cute shops and places to eat within walking distance.  Recently, we discovered that if you drive north into Union Pier, you can find small beach fronts with a few FREE parking spaces.  The parking fills up fast so you have to get there pretty early but it beats the parking fee downtown.  This is especially great if you are bringing your own lunch and planning to stay right on the beach.

"Ok"

Compared to the public beach in St. Joseph... this one pales in comparison.  One site facitilies is nothing to speak of... "ok" bathroom, below par playground on the beach, below par concessions and small parking.  In addition, I found that New Buffalo beach area is rockier than other parts in MI.

"Great beach, but parking is a fee"

Cute public beach in downtown New Buffalo. We were able to walk to it from our vacation rental, but there is parking available for a fee. Parking fee per vehicle: $5 for first two hours, $1 per hour for each additional hour up to $10. Don't try and push a stroller to your spot in the sand unless you have a jogger stroller! Lifeguards are on duty from Lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They also have a playground, pavilion, picnic tables and grills.
