Performances by Schedule, see website
With a little pre-planning (to take advantage of the few showtimes that are scheduled each week (not everyday) you will be able to take in culture, entertainment and family-fun in a single half hour show.
Performing at the Harrigan Centennial Hall, at the harbor, near the cruise dock in Sitka, this volunteer group of ladies perform on stage with huge enthusiasm and energy. There are no men involved and it's been that way since the formation of the troupe. Women perform both gender roles.
The music coordinates with the actions in the dance and their is a narrator of sorts for each piece. A rendition of the Alaska State song ends the show and will remain in your head for the rest of the day! Our son is very into movement and dance, especially when it is vigorous and fast-paced, such as this one. Adults will appreciate the costuming, make up and history on stage, as well as the wordless story that unfolds with each.
We had a great time and the 1/2 hour went by really fast. An enormous amount of time, dedication, and talent is apparent and we'd recommend everyone see this iconic part of Sitka Russian influence for themselves!
Disclosure: My family received complimentary admission to a New Archangel Dancers show. All opinions are our own. Thank you!
