Welcome to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island! We invite you to come and visit the 68,000-square foot facility located on the Outer Banks. The Aquarium features many exciting and unusual residents that will guide you through your exploration of the “Waters of the Outer Banks.”
The Aquarium has something for everyone, and features sharks, alligators, and river otters as well as programming that includes dive shows, live animal encounters and feeding programs. The Aquarium has several special activities to choose from and unforgettable events. Be sure to include a visit to the Aquarium for a fun, exciting, and educational experience!
We took the kids here while vacationing at the outer banks. They had a great time seeing all the different animals. Its not the biggest aquarium we have been to and it doesnt rate next to a Ripleys Aquarium but if you are looking for something to do to get out it will work.
Very small only takes about 30 min. to get through it. The website makes it look a lot larger than it is. Lots of tiny fish, with only one large shark. For the money you pay not really worth it. It gets points for cleanliness, but we probably will not go again.
this is great for kids of all ages..There is alot to look at, and is very educational..Love the hurricane exhibit..its is really nice if you can get there at shark feeding time....It can get crowded but the lines move pretty good..Check out the Osprey camera they have set up where you can watch live video of a Osprey in its nest....
Next take a jaunt on Airport Road, 3 miles north of US 64, to the North Carolina Aquarium. It’s one of three such aquariums on the coast. In addition to the displays of fresh and saltwater habitats and a touch tank, the aquarium offers special programs and educational films throughout the year. At this aquarium you’ll see sharks in a 285,000-gallon tank, alligators, and coastal environmental displays, including one on Outer Banks hurricanes.
This is a smaller aquarium compared to the others in NC, but it is still a fun place with lots of educational opportunities. It gets packed on rainy days with tourists that can't enjoy the beach, so if you're not a fan of crowds, you might want to go early in the morning on a hot, sunny day.
Love the aquarium you can not go wrong here, there is plenty to see and do and the children will not be bored or dissapointed. The staff was very friendly and my daughter really had a good time, we got some awsome pictures and can't wait to go back it's a must see at the beach.
Our family loves this place. We don't travel to this area without visiting the aquarium. My husband and son love the touch tank with the sting rays and other creatures. The shark tank is a big hit too! Admission is reasonable and definitely is hours of entertainment.
We visited this aquarium with our 18 month old while on vacation and it was great. It is smaller than most aquariums, so it was much easier to get around and see everything with a little one. They have touch-n-feel tanks with sea urchins, starfish and sting rays. Admission for children under 5 is FREE.
While on vacation we decided to see the Aquarium. It was a beautiful entrance and looked much bigger than it actually was. You start your tour to the right and travel counterclockwise. It probably lasts about 30-45 minutes. The day we decided to go there was a terrible storm and it knocked the electricity out. There weren't may lights on but I asked if we could come back later in the day to see all what we had missed... They didn't seem to have a problem with it.
We were visiting North Carolina and had too many rainy days. We decided to find something inside to do with the kids. This was a nice aquarium. Very small, and not overly exciting, but at least it was something to do indoors on a rainy day. The cost was average, but worth it to avoid the fighting of being stuck inside!!!!
There is a wonderful display of lifesaving stations and lighthouses. There are interactive displays about hurricanes. We enjoyed a touch tank and sea turtle exhibits. Our favorite display is the open ocean tank with sharks. We love to watch the divers in the tank with the sharks and ask them questions.
