Learn about the world around you through the eyes of scientists and go for a guided walk at noon to learn about the area closest to you.
NCAR is free & has tons of hands-on, education things for little scientists to explore. There are several levels to visit. There is even one that answers the question, "Why is the sky blue?"
Be sure to start in the theater where you can see a video about wehat NCAR does & one about the polar icecaps.
The main floor has a tornado tube, lightning tube & a couple of other exhibits. The middle area has an architerctural exhibit about the building's designer, I.M. Pei (who also designed the Louvre in Paris). Downstairs, you can view the supercomputers. There is an old CRAY supercomputer that you can actually walk inside. Note that the Apple iPhone is now more powerful than the CRAY!
There is a beautiful trail at the back of the building, but you cannot reenter through that door, so make it your last stop.
This is a must stop for every science buff! There's a great trail for nature buffs, too! Our autistic daughter especially loved the hands-on activities in the museum. There's a great movie in the visitor's center. Some kids/teens may be bored if they're not interested in the topics of weather and physics.
