This isn't the hugest thing in the world but its been in the blowing rock area for years and people stop in on their way to Boone. This house defies the laws of gravity and other gimicky things like hugh bubbles that the kids can stand inside etc. There is also a gem mine where you can pan for gems beside the place where the kids can rock hunt. A kid actually found a quite large emerald here a few years ago.
As you drove to Tweetsie from Blowing Rock on US 321, you probably noticed Mystery Hill, a hands-on science museum that lets visitors decide if these strange exhibits are natural phenomena or illusions. It doesn’t appear there’s much to the old woodsided building, but it’s worth stopping here to see rocks that glow in the dark and exhibits that defy gravity, such as a ball that rolls uphill, or leave your shadow on the wall. Is it science or is it magic?
Mystery Hill is an awesome place for a family outing! The kids enjoy all of the mind boggling mysteries of gravity. There is also a cute gift shop to enjoy. The view of the surrounding mountains is pretty nice too! My 5 and 6 year old boys loved their trip there, and still talk about it all the time. They really loved the giant bubbles!
