The Mystery Castle is a house that was built from found or inexpensive materials like stone, adobe, automobile parts, salvaged rail tracks from a mine, telephone poles, etc. It has 18 rooms including a dungeon and chapel.
Mystery Castle is one of Phoenix's points of pride. A man from Seattle relocated to Phoenix because he was suffering from TB. He built this 8,000 square foot mansion by hand for his daughter. It has 18 bedrooms, 13 fireplaces and some one of a kind items. Lots of history and fun stories. My daughter got a kick out of the "Mother In Law" quarters that had a staircase with no rail leading to a 3rd floor .
Since the building is older the floor is very uneven so I was constantly watching my step and my daughters. Worth going at least once.
