Over 450 hands-on exhibits to engage and educate visitors of all ages in the wonders of science, industry and technology. Offering Florida's only IMAX Dome Theatre, a separate Children's Science Center (Kids in Charge), Disasterville featuring Bay News 9 Weather Quest and The Amazing You (an exhibiton on health and wellness from the beginning of life to adolescence life stages).
Recently added is the Sky Trail Ropes Course which features 36 elements on a 12-36 foot high multi-level structure which will challenge your fears and give you an adrenaline rush!
My favorite part of the museum is the disaster area where you can experience a wildfire, tornado, and hurricane. This might be a little intense for small kiddos, mine where a little nervous.
The Kids In Charge area is huge, lots of hands on things for them to do. You can spend hours in there! The room where you can push the button to make your shadow appear on the wall is really cool. We did that over and over.
The older kids liked the highwire bicycle, you get strapped in and go out and back on the bike 30 feet in the air.
When it's warm the butterfly garden is pretty. Also the museum has a planetarium and IMAX theater for an extra charge.
One of the best aspects to visiting MOSI is that they offer new and interesting exhibits all the time. As of July 2011, MOSI added a Sky Trail Ropes Course which is absolutely wonderful for all of those adventurous folks out there! There is a fee for this new activity. You can opt to go on the Ropes Course without having to pay for the overall MOSI entrance fees or include the Ropes Course as a part of your visit to MOSI.
There are height and weight restrictions so children have to be at least 42" tall to go on the ropes course with an adult and at least 48" to go on their own. There are 36 elements on about three different levels ranging from 12-36 feet off the ground.
You are buckled into a harness and have a safety line which you can hold onto if you lose your balance along the way. We had an absolute blast climbing all around the metal structure. My preschooler keeps asking when we can go back! If you plan to go on the ropes course, try to do that first or as early in your day as possible...it can get hot and bright. Earlier in the day, the ropes course is shaded by the IMAX dome which makes it nice. Have fun!
MOSI has some good events throughout the year that can be fun for the whole family! It definetely is hands on and if you havea chance to go to the IMAX that is interesting. You can see a movie like in a globe, which was cool! I know the packages are pretty good if you can get it and the best part is throughout the year, on certain months, you can get into other areas of attraction for free or good discounts. ask for more information, I know one is the florida aquarium. so get the good deals when you can, and anything that saves you money helps for the family! God Bless You!
This is the best place to learn for both kids and adults. There is always something new being added and everything is hands on so it's so fun and engaging. The separate kids area is so educational. You could really spend more than one day visiting this museum between the main area, the kids area and the Imax theater.
I was always excited to go on field trips to MOSI! All ages love going there, it is an educational and yet a very fun place to go. I loved exploring the many different things they have to offer. I even went on my little sisters field trip so I could go again. I cannot get enough of that place. I think everyone should go there atleast once in their life. My family and I like to do hands on activities, I believe that is one of the best ways to learn.
Tampa's Museum of Science and Industry offers a lot without requiring hours of travel. It is right in the middle of suburban Tampa and is big enough for a good half day of fun. There are a lot of exhibits most appropriate for kids 3+ and a great IMAX theater that is usually showing 3 or 4 different movies at a time (tickets separate). This is probably not the best day outing for a 1 or 2 year old, because there is not as much for them to do, but would be perfect for an older toddler or child in school. Also really cool for birthday parties!
Toddlers and young kids will love the seperate play/learn area - Kids In Charge. They get to explore magnets and microscopes, a pendulum and simulated spelunking. There is a large area where children get to learn about the process food goes through - from the farms to the grocery store/restaurant. And they get to take part in all of it.
My son's favorite part of the adventure was inside the main museum. They had a temporary ride-on train that was no additional charge. He LOVED being the engineer and being able to ring the bell. Luckily, there wasn't a line, and he was able to ride multiple times. MOSI can be pricey, but they offer a significant military discount for those with an active duty ID.
We love visiting MOSI, that we have a seasons pass. It is a fantastic museum to go to, especially on the few rainy days in Florida. It has plenty to keep the adults and the kids entertained. There is enough to keep a child under 5 entertained, as well as the older children. They also have an IMAX theater that they show movies and documentaries on.
Mosi has so much to offer. Learn about dinosaurs, humans, history and everyday life at Mosi. Stop by the Recycleosaurus outside of the building, he is a large dinosaur that the community uses to recycle. There is a planetarium and you can stay later to see the stars and learn about different constellations. Huge place with so much to offer. Stroller suggested for smaller children as there is quite a bit to do. Very hands on place!
We recieved annual passes as a gift, and we literally went once and never went back. Everything that was included in our middle of the line pass package was broken or unusable, the activities the kids wanted to do cost extra money and were only slightly discounted to pass holders. This used to be an awesome museum...now it is a disappointment.
MOSI as locals call it, has something special about it that even with all the theme parks around, MOSI can still be very popular. Mosi is a museum and theme park put into one. Its an indoor learning station! MOSI has so much to offer your brain will probably hurt on the way home(which is a good thing) MOSI offers so many different learning aides and teaches children to adults about every and anything. They also have a building that has been added just for kids to play, but while they are playing, PROMISE they are learning as well. Mosi is a special place that we need to keep around for awhile because theme parks can only teach so much. Great thing for locals as well is that MOSI offers summer camps to keep your children learning while having fun.
If you want to see your kids have a blast while learning, bring them to MOSI. The exhibits are all kid friendly, and fun. The Hurricane room exhibit is Hair Raising. The high wire bike ride is fun as well. Almost all of the exhibits are hands on and allow little hands to build...or tear down.
Mosi is great!Kids learn while having lots of fun. There is an Imax Dome Theater and a Planetarium. At the Imax Theater my family always watches one about the Coral Reef. They have games like High Wire Bicycle and the Gulf Coast Hurricane which is personally one of my favorites. There is also a Butterfly Garden which is another of my favorites. There is also Kids in Charge.Mosi is a very kids safe and fun enviormaent!
MOSI, the largest science center in the southeastern United States, gives you a feel for tornadoes, the birthing process, and hurricanes. Kids In Charge, a challenging interactive children's science center for ages twelve and under that opened in 2006, was largely planned by kids ages ten to seventeen. Some 450 other exhibits deal with Florida's environment and natural history, health, flight, and space in a creative, interactive manner, using computer and other games. IMAX domed screen shows and a planetarium will enchant the entire family with 180-degree views of volcanoes, the planets, and the Amazon rain forest. Explore a butterfly garden and stroll more than 3 miles of backwoods trails. This is one of Florida's most high-tech interactive museums.
