This is a great museum for anyone. There are so many interesting things to see and learn! You could spend much time there just interacting with all of the different things to do that involve teaching your young ones! I have been to Boston 3 times and have made it a point to visit the museum each time in case I missed something!!
Another great place for families and people of all ages. At the science museum there are tons of exhibits as well as shows. I recommend going to a show, depending on what is available at the time. the best part of the museum is that it is hands on so the kids really get to interact which keeps them really interested. there is free parking nearby. but remember to pack a lunch!
At the Museum of Science you can browse the exhibits or take in a show. Such as a laser show in the planetarium or something in the mugar omni theater. Last year I saw the Harry Potter exhibit that consisted of props and large pieces of the sets of the movies. See the giant dinosaur statue!
There is something for every age at the Science Museum-I did not realize this until I had a young one. There's a special young children's room that is past the food court that has a whole bunch of fun stuff to explore. The shows are always fun (yet a bit expensive) and there are free shows that happen throughout the day as well. Parking can be expensive-if you go on a Sunday there's free local parking on close side streets!
I used to come here on school field trips. I always had an AWESOME time here. I've even saw a movie about the Grand Canyon here in the Omni Theater. The Omni is amazing with the sound and the screen. Some of the exhibits seem outdated. I don't know how often they change them. The gift shop has great things, but it can get pricey.
I have fond memories of visiting the Museum of Science in Boston when I was a child back in the 80's and 90's. Now that I have a family myself we visit MOS quite often. We have been members for a few years now and will continue to renew each and every year. I highly recommend it! The museum does a wonderful job of offering amazing, traveling exhibits so it always seems like there is a new adventure waiting when we visit. They also have a great selection of permanent exhibits. I love that I can show my children a few exhibits that I used to enjoy myself as a child. There is the always amazing Mugar Omni Theatre and the new planetarium is set to re-open in February of 2011. You can visit the live Butterfly Garden and take a trip up and down the Musical Staircase. The Museum of Science in Boston is absolutely a great place to spend the day with your family, no matter what age your children are! If you get hungry for a snack or a full on meal, tere is a wonderful cafe overlooking the Charles River. Menus offer a variety of food options to ensure that everyone will be happy! If Mom & Dad need a pick me up, stop at Starbucks and get your fix! We’ve always been able to find a great parking spot in the museum’s attached parking garage. What are you waiting for? Visit the MOS in Boston today! You won't be disappointed...
An amazing hands-on and interactive museum. Never get tire of going! If you are staying with friends or know anyone from the area, ask them to check at their public library for discounted ticket availability. You can save A LOT of $$ this way. Lockers available (but limited) to leave jackets and valuable you don't want to carry all day. Pack your own lunch or eat there.
first time we went here, my son was barely 3. It was love on the first sight for him, now almost 8. We've been there 3 times so far, worth the 2 hrs trip from CT and this year we bought the membership. My 4 yrs old girl loves MoS, especially the little butterfly garden. Too bad the planetarium will be closed till January 2011, because that's one of our favorite exhibit.
This museum is fabulous! Instead of being told to "look and don't touch," this museum encourages you to explore and get lots of hands on fun! You may need a whole day to get through the entire place, but it will be a very fun day! Make sure to catch some shows while there! The exhibits are great! Since the museum is so hands on, it is great for kids of all ages!
Straddling a dam at the mouth of the Charles River, the Museum of Science deserves its reputation as a favorite field trip for Boston-area school kids.
The museum is enormous, with more than 550 interactive exhibits; bring a stroller if you have toddlers. Young kids may not want to leave the Discovery Center, which was designed (and recently renovated) with them in mind.
Other favorite exhibits include the Transparent Woman, which lights up to display organs; the Live Animal Show; the Butterfly Garden (extra fee); the 3-D Theater (extra fee); the Theater of Electricity; the dinosaur exhibit, which outlines the latest theory that birds and dinosaurs are closely related; and the Chick Hatchery, where you observe chicks hatching from eggs.
The Computer Museum (which is now closed) gave the Museum of Science its virtual fish tank exhibit, the computer club house, and Cahner’s Computer Place.
On Friday nights, the Gilliland Observatory is open at 7:00 p.m. in season for stargazing (on the rooftop of the museum), weather permitting, and it’s free! Camp Ins are available to large groups and members under prior arrangement.
This is a place that you can spend a morning, or a whole day. There are lots of interactive activities for children and adults...including musical stairs. There are also special exhibits throughout the day that are free with admission. The Omni theatre is extra, but worth the experience if you haven't been. The theatre however, is not good for young children.
I went with a three-year-old and spent most of my time chasing him around rather than enjoying the exhibits. When he's a bit older, I'm sure we'll return and see everything. I loved it when I was a kid and it's only gotten better since.
