Boeing's famed Museum of Flight is a sure to not miss for any aged aircraft enthusiast. The most interactive air and space museum around!
Children 4 and under are free.
If your kids are 10 years or older, they will be in heaven. Kids younger than that may not grasp the impressiveness of the displays. Make sure to see the SR-71 Blackbird display for a truly impressive spectactle. For children studying civics, take time to tour Air Force One.
We have been to the museum a couple of times. The first time we visited was before we had children and just recently, we visited wtih our three children. What a great time they had! There is a little something for everyone at the Museum of Flight. We really enjoyed seeing Air Force One and taking pictures. The kids enjoyed the space exhibit and for anyone interested in history, check out the Boeing history exhibit. The museum has a cafe on location and the prices were reasonable. Most of the exhibits are housed in the main museum, but you are required to walk across an outside skybridge to see some of the planes that are kept across the street. We spent about 5 hours there and found that to be just about the right amount of time. Our children were 5,4 and a few months old. No one got bored, but we did hear a few complaints about tired feet.
This is a great family fun air museum. It is full of different types and eras of planes and other air travel. Even for people not interested in airplanes will find something to do here. This has history topics along with the airplanes. One thing that makes it non family friendly is the other part is across a busy street. You have to go to a stop light to cross a major street to see the other part of the museum. It is well worth it if you can handle children across this major street and have children that are not in strollers. It takes you to a park that has walk through planes. This is what makes it a non stroller friendly part you will have to take your children out and carry them through the aircraft. But for the children who can walk they are thrilled to get up front action. I would recommend this air museum for everyone.
The Museum is free the first Tuesday of every month after 5pm but that means it is more crowded. They have a fun little area for younger kids to play in with a play airplane and helicopter to sit in and other things to play with. There is an outside area where you can go into an Air Force 1 and a few other planes. They added a WW1 and 2 exhibit not too many years ago so it is all new and well done. There is also and interesting history of the Boeing Company. They have videos on different types of airplanes including a blue angels show.
i love this place little tip First Thursday of each month

My husband and I visited this museum before we had kids. However, I would like to return with them. There are many areas of the museum that kids would love and so many different types of aircraft to explore. We loved taking a tour of the Concorde--so neat to see!
We took our younger children here and there were several things for them to enjoy! Interactive exhibits including a plane they can walk into, and many interesting display planes that adults will enjoy looking at too!
The cost was reasonable for the experience, and you will not regret taking your family.
My family has always been fascinated by airplanes, so this museum is a natural fit for us. The Museum of Flight is located just south of Seattle, about a 10 minute drive from downtown. It's on the edge of Boeing Field, where planes are constantly taking off and landing.
The Museum of Flight is HUGE- so give yourselves lots of time if you plan to visit here. We usually start our visit in the main gallery- which is filled with planes from all eras of plane travel. Near the main gallery is a play areas where kids can pretend to fly small planes. They often have some sort of flight-related craft activity going on as well. Next we usually visit the control tower, where you can hear actual flight controllers from Boeing Field as they help land the planes. And you can see the planes landing from close by.
Near the flight tower are several displays about space travel, with models and reproductions of space modules and such.
Next we stroll through the Red Barn, which has displays on the very early years of airplanes and Boeing. And on to the WWI and WWII galleries, complete with war-era planes and displays about the brave people that fought in those wars.
And last, but not least, it's across the beautiful new pedestrian bridge to the airpark across the street, where you can walk through an old Air Force One plane and a Concorde! Both are must dos.
My son is 2 and just now is truly appreciating this museum- he talked about airplanes for weeks after we'd been there. We usually go when my parents visit, but we end up having to drag my dad out, since he gets very involved in all the displays. It's a great place to visit no matter what ages you're trying to entertain!
