One of the nation's largest facilities devoted to the art of our time, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) offers exhibitions of the most thought-provoking art created since 1945. The MCA documents contemporary visual culture through painting, sculpture, photography, video and film, and performance. Located in the heart of downtown Chicago, the MCA boasts a gift store, bookstore, restaurant, 300-seat theater, and a terraced sculpture garden with a great view of Lake Michigan.
The museum of Contemporary Art is a wonderful place. This place takes you on a journey through the world of art. They have a new main exhibit a few times a year and it is fun to go through. Not completely recommended for people with young children. Art can get a little provocative.
Although the have some kids things unless you have kids that wont scream and just stay quiet I would probably pass. Our daughter was in the stroller and got thirsty and wanted a snack and we were asked to leave the main area because there was no food or drink allowed (which I completely understand). We ended up walking across the street to the playground for an hour while the rest of the people in our group finished up at the museum.
Just like any museum I take my kids into that not a "children's" one in the title, I'm a bit self-conscious of their noise and activity level. But these guys do a good job of letting families feel comfortable. Even Target has teamed up with them to offer Family Fun days every second Saturday from 11-3pm. If your kids are 12 or under, you all get in free! They have stuff like hands-on art activities, scavenger hunts, and Look ‘n' Learn stations. Plus, their gift shop is stellar.
