The wonderful thing about this museum is that it is filled with beautiful art both about the starting of the LDS church and not. It has rotating exhibits and a great area for kids. The artwork that is not associated with teh LDS church is also well chosen and beautiful, but this is alos a great palce for tourists to get a feel for the Mormon history through beautiful works of art.
This museum is wonderful. It is clean, and beautiful, and well put together. The people who work there obviously love their job and care deeply about the history they are sharing with those who visit the museum. They have some incredible exhibits. I'm not sure it would be great for little tiny children over a long period of time, but it is definitely worth seeing.
This is one of my favorites...they alway have some new exhibits, and some old ones that are always up. I'm not Mormon, but I definitely found it interesting anyway. They also have a FUN kid's play room that my kids LOVED, so it's good for kids, too!
My family & I love visiting the Museum of Church History and Art. The stories portrayed are fascinating and the exhibits are rich in both history and faith. We are constantly inspired by the sacrifices so many have made for what they believe in. All of the artwork is breathtaking, faith-promoting and memorable. A must see if you are visiting SLC.
We love to go here about once a year---usually when we are up to see the Lights at Temple Square. Across the street (to the west?) is this free museum showing all LDS history from Joseph Smith, though the PIoneers and up to present day prophets. It's very informative and they change some things, but most of it stays the same.
Good place to go if you are LDS or want to learn more about the Mormon church. A lot of history mixed with art is presented. I like the children's room areas with interactive pioneer items and great places to learn in a fun way. Plan on at least 1 1/2 hours to see everything.
If you want to delve into a piece of Utah history, this is the place. There are so many artifacts dating back to pioneer times. You can easily spend a couple hours in the museum just taking in all the history and significance of what it represents. While you're there, take the opportunity to see "Temple Square".
I like to go here but with a four and two year old it isn't as great as going as just an adult. Older kids would probably enjoy it but it can be to much with little ones. If you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints you might find that it is more interesting to your kids also since they know some of the history and are familiar with it.
If you are touring temple square with the kids they will love the children's room in this museum. It is upstairs and at the back but well worth seeking out. THey have lots of games for the kids, coloring activities, dress up, puzzles, play house and other stuff. They change the theme but it is always a fun break from looking at the sites. Oh and they have nice benches for the grownups to sit on. It is FREE
This museum tells the story of the Mormon church through a variety of exhibits and programs. The collection includes both historic and contemporary artifacts and artwork. The main floor host many historic artifacts. The upper floor has a gallery that is always changing, so there is always something new to see! I would also suggest a Guided Tour they can give more detail and answers any questions you may have. Admission is Free
