My famiy went to the Museum of Appalachia with my parents two summers ago when my little boy was almost five. While the adults found this to be very interesting and informative, my little boy didin't enjoy it much at all. My dad is in his late seventies and saw a lot of neat things from his childhood displayed at the museum. I especilally loved their gardens and how everything was put to the era. People were dressed as they would have long ago. They offer a lot of festivles and neat shows at the museum. I would love to go back now that my little one is older. It's just a little ways north on Knoxville in Clinton, TN.
I obviously wasn't impressed with this place. Maybe if you're from a large metropolis and you have never visited a farm at all, it would be a cool attraction, but for those of us who have seen a chicken and a goat before, not that great of a trip. The building, with it's nick-nack shop, is cute and was the highlight of the trip for me...think Cracker Barrel gift shop.
We went to the Museum of Appalachia with my sons class for his first Kindergarten Field trip. We didn't get to stay that long, so it was sort of rushed. They have alot of different things to look at. I would probably go back with my family when we have more time and can actually visit more things and read more about it.
Museum of Appalachia has tons of living history from life in Appalachia during the pioneer period. Old buildings, cabins, displays of instruments, tools, and artifacts is amazing. They also have plenty of animals to keep your little ones entertained - we saw tons of peacocks and fowl roaming the property freely which was so neat! They also have goats and sheep in fences that you can visit with as well. Plenty of exercise for the kids to stretch their legs and a great little restaurant/snack bar inside the main ticket area with lots of homemade gifts to take home!
