"Great for Hiking, Biking, and Camping! "

This is a very fun State Park! It is BEAUTIFUL! It is also very educational. There are lots of trails to hike and fun playgrounds for the kids to play on. There is a nature center that has robot animals! The nature center also has a bird watching area in the back. This is a great place to go for a family picnic and is a cheap date too! :)

"Small and Fun camping"

The mounds state park derives its name from the archeological sites within the park.  The visitor and nature center is small but extremely well done for a state park.  The kids will love all the interactive displays.  Mine like the "touch the mystery object" type one.  There are also a good number of animals in the nature center mostly frogs, snakes, lizards and turtles.  Out front there is a fun dugout canoe the kids can climb in and a childrens sensory garden.  MOst of the trails in this park are short and easy.  Even the moderate trails are pretty tame for the adventurous family.  The campground is small and intimate but there is enough space on each site that you do not feel crowded.  We recommend the outer campsites that back onto woods - for shade and privacy.  Note there is a small airport adjacent to the campground - so don't expect to sleep in late on weekends.  However, the planes are limited tocivilized hours and did not bother us. There is also a boat launch and the White river is ideal for a gentle canoe/kayak trip.  The pool is small but nicely maintained with a fun sprinkler zone for small children.  Another great thing about this park is it is close to town and you can easily run in for supplies, pizza etc.  Also it is under an hour from the north side of Indianapolis, with little traffic on I-69, just avoid friday evening 5-6pm: making it a great weekend spot.
