Monahans Sandhills State Park
add photosThis is where kids love to surf the sand. Rent a sand-surfing disk and fly down thesmooth, cream-colored sand dunes. The park is 4,000 acres of always-changing, wind-sculpted dunes that look more like the Sahara Desert than Texas. In addition to sand sliding, the park has horseback rides, hiking trails, camping and picnic sites, interpretive rides in a utility vehicle, and a museum.

"Surf the Sahara!"
You've seen beaches, well imagine being an ant on that beach and that's what it's like at the Sandhills in Monahans! Endless, slopes and hills of beautiful, clean smooth sand. You can wax a board and actually surf down the dunes! Kids love it and adults make fools of themselves trying to out-do, out-surf their kids. Take plenty of liquids to drink, you'll need it and pack a lunch but be prepared for a little sand in your sandwich!
