J. Pearce "Mitchell" park is a 21.4 acre neighborhood park with many one of kind features.
Amenities: The park includes shuffleboard courts, checkerboard/chess tables, seven tennis courts, two paddle tennis courts, four basketball/handball courts, jogging trails, picnic areas with barbecues reservation policy enforced, multi-use concrete bowl, toddler playgrounds, childrens water fountain play area, large dog run, and restrooms.
One of the Palo Alto libraries is also located in the park and often has children story hours throughout the day.
I read about Mitchell Park here on Trekaroo and just went this weekend. What a lot of fun our 5 and 3 year old had. All the other children were wearing smiles from ear to ear. As a mom, hearing the squeals of delight from my two boys was priceless. It was perfect for cooling off from the 90+ degree weather. There is also a cool sandbox with concrete tunnels that the kids enjoy and some normal play structures. There is also a nice group BBQ picnic area near the playground which could make this a great park for a birthday party. Bathrooms were right by the playground, but they weren't very clean. The water fountain area was lots of fun, but it was pretty crowded. I've been to playgrounds with larger water play areas, but this was definitely adequate for a good 1-2 hours of fun.
I thought this a community park for tennis buffs until I heard those contagious giggles with exciting screams, and wondered what the commotion was behind a fenced area next to East Meadows Rd. Behold! There were squirts of water that spring up intermittently, catching littles tots by surprise. It's the unexpected SURPRISE that gets the little ones laughing and running excitedly to the delight of the moms and dads watching from the surrounding benches. This is a favorite water play for the little ones!

Revisited this park and found new stuff: there is a "kids" tennis court, where the net is lower, and great for young 7-8 year olds who love to learn tennis early! I also noticed that kids who play in the grassy areas love to watch a group of Tai Chi enthusiasts who practice the ancient art 4 mornings a week. There were also Samoan dances and music when they celebrate their annual day in the park. Palo Alto is quite a place of diversity.
We come here every few weeks. In the summer, we come more than once a week to play in the water. Lots of sand, toys to ride and structures easy to climb for toddlers. It can get a bit crowded in the summer afternoons. Mornings are less crowded.
A nice family park in a safe suburb. Not much here but some swing sets and jungle gyms. There some nice tennis courts for the adults. A nice quiet library and community center is within Mitchell Park as well.
We love this park. It's got all the basics from slides, swings, sand pit, plus all the perks like a fabulous water fountain play area for kids to cool off in the hot summer heat. There's plenty of space for kids to run and play all sorts of games like freeze tag or hide and seek.
