Bundle up, bring your binoculars, and come to the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in February or March and you might see thousands of tundra swans and snow geese. In spring and fall there are many other species of migrating waterfowl. There are also 6,254 acres of state game land, with seven trails, plus fishing and hunting in designated areas only, including one trout stream that’s accessible to the disabled. Picnic areas are available, but you must not feed the birds. Check the Web site to find out current migration patterns.
There are a number of annual events at Middle Creek. The first full weekend in August brings the annual art show. During the third full weekend in September, you can see an exhibit of woodcarving including decoys. Also in September is the annual Pennsylvania State Goose Calling and Duck-Calling Championships.
