A dinner theater with a 2 hour live performance of horses, knights, a king, jousting, sword battles, horsemanship and more. Dinner is served without utensils in a traditional and delicious medieval style during the show. A brand new show opened February 2012.
The brand new show at Medieval Times was epic in its entertainment, display of skill and amazing horsemanship. I was completely in awe of the white Andalusian Stallion that came galloping out with out a rider or bridle and its mane blowing in the breeze as it performed beautiful dressage moves. Through the eyes of children, this dinner and tournament show becomes even more amazing.
I had the privilege of taking my 3 boys, ages 5, 9, and 11 to this dinner and tournament and all three absolutely loved it. My 11 year old sat gasping and in awe of the sword fights, the jousting and the feats of skill that the knights performed. My 5 year old sat next to me and kept saying things like, “I’ve never seen a horse do that before!” or, “I’ve never seen a king before!”
The castle doors opened at 5:30 and I honestly didn’t know what we would want to do while we waited until the show started at 7. I didn’t need to worry because we found that exploring the castle with its armory (boys got to heft a real sword), gift shop (we gazed at amazing chess sets), viewing the beautiful horses (behind Plexiglas), torture chamber museum (we skipped that one), and the royal announcements by the Master of Ceremonies and the King kept us busy. We had passes to the Knights Room where we got to meet all of the 6 knights before the show. My 5 year old checked out their armor and a brave knight even encouraged him to punch his chest to see if he could handle it. Of course, his modern armor under his shirt proved mighty strong to a 5 year old’s blow. They were all very friendly and kind and encouraged us to cheer for them.
At 6:45 we were gathered in the hall and were sorted into the theater room by our colors. Keeping track of my 5 year old in the hubbub while keeping him from waving his flag (complimentary) in the faces of the adults nearby was quite a challenge. We were finally seated by our table number and then the real excitement began. We were going to eat with our hands! The meal is standard (no choosing from a menu) and the food is plentiful and delicious. I would recommend asking for straws for young kids or purchasing a cup with lid from the gift shop area before dinner. We all enjoyed Pepsi in our plastic steins. The Dragon Soup (tomato bisque) was very hot for my little guy but he was too engaged with watching the horses and knights to even notice his soup. He munched away at the garlic bread that was as big as a personal pizza and delicious. A full half of chicken, spare rib, potato wedges (like big French fries) all landed on our plates during the show. Coffee and a big apple strudel came last. We took home 2 boxes full of chicken and have been enjoying it all week.
Tips:
• Come when the castle doors open to enjoy all the extra things there are to see.
• Be prepared to spend money on souvenirs such as foam swords and princess capes if your little ones enjoy those things.
• Bring cash to tip your server at the end of the meal.
• Use the restroom during the show unless you want to wait in a very long line when the show is finished.
• It honestly seemed as if all the seats in the theater were excellent and provided great views, except for the top row which seemed quite far away and in the hubbub of the servers and back passageway.
• If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or other such thing, be sure to call ahead or inform someone when you arrive. The king and princess will announce your name.
• The dinner chairs are like foldable movie theater seats. Boosters are available.
• Bring wet wipes to clean children’s hands after eating. Lots of napkins are provided.
After the show, we stayed around for about 15 minutes and while most people left, we were rewarded with seeing all 6 knights, the horsemen, and the Master of Ceremonies. They came out and mingled in the Knights Room for the next hour and were available to greet. My 11 year old wanted to meet each one, have them sign his flag and then take a picture with them. It was one of his favorite parts of the evening and I was glad for the chance to thank them and praise them on their hard work and incredible show.
I received free tickets for the VIP Premiere Event for the opening of the new show at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. I was not asked to express a particular point of view and all opinions are strictly my own.
My family had a great time at this place, though it will most likely only be a one time experience due to the price of the tickets and once you've seen the show there's not much else to it.
We arrived at 2pm for the 3:30pm show; therefore we got great parking and did not need to wait in a long line. Though, the 6pm crowd was much larger than our audience so I am glad we attended the early show. Prior to the show there was not really that much to do to entertain a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old. We bought our son a shield and sword and our daughter a headband with veil. My husband and I really enjoyed the dungeon tour with all the medieval torture devices. My daughter pretended to be scared but she actually enjoyed guessing what each contraption was used for.
The food was decent. I was surprised that my daughter actually like the Tomato Bisque, especially when she got to dip the garlic bread in it. The chicken and potato was somewhat bland, but the "dragon" rib was tasty, though my daughter would not eat it because she really thought it came from a dragon.
After the show the kids took photos with our designated knight, who also had given my daughter a flower...which she kept rubbing upon her cheek the entire drive home.
Overall, it was fun and I highly recommend trying it out at least once. Next time we are off to see the Pirate show...
Of course kids love to eat with their hands. (If you're not a total carnivore I would order a vegetarian meal, otherwise it's just a side of chicken and a potato, but still good) Kids don't have to be super quite because they want you to shout. You can show up early and shop and get virgin frozen drinks and get a good spot in line so you get a good seat. I would say most of the souvenirs you can buy are overpriced and not very useful. Make sure you check the website for special days. we once went on frat house day and ended up surrounded by a bunch of loud and rowdy drunk college boys.
Our family has been to this castle and tournanent themed dinner show more than a few times, and I cant tell you enough how awesome it is! It is worth the high price...and be sure to watch for coupons , discounts and deal packages. We always have gotten really great food and an excellent show. Cheer for your knight while you drink from a goblet of your favorite beverage and feast like royalty! We took my son when he was four and he couldnt wait to go back. The show is very entertaining with many different aspects that make you want to keep watching. The whole family will walk away with a great memory and a smiling face.
I have taken my kids here many times. My oldest who is 4 has been 6 times since he was 2. My 2 year old has gone 3 times. Both enjoy the food and show. We do buy the 3yr old his own seat since there is limited room to hold them. He stands on the chair to watch the show. I recommend that you buy the "team" flag because the kids will enjoy cheering their Knight on! Be aware, it does get loud. So much fun or kids and adults!!!!
This is such a cool place! It's a huge castle where you have dinner while watching medieval times men fight on horses. You sit in a section designated by color, and that color represents the knight you are rooting for. The food is very tasty, and afterwards there is a lounge where you can dance, have drinks, and meet the knights. You also get to view the horses, and for a fee you or your child can be knighted. It's a little pricey, but worth it at least once!
Eating with queens, kings, and knights that fight? This was a fun side trip on our vacation and made for a very unique dinner experience. It was fun and created some great memories, but overall can be an expensive dinner for a larger family, but I guess you pay for the experience.
What better way to spend your dining time than watching a show? This is a fun dinner! You watch them play their sport, I forget what it's called, with the sticks and the horses (like on A Knight's Tale, haha). The food is good if you like a big piece of chicken and entertainment. There is also an area to buy things, princess hats, wooden swords, souvineer cups, etc. Just be warned that it might get boring for the under 7 crowd.
Included is a four-course meal of twenty-first-century food (appetizer, vegetable soup, chicken, ribs, baked potato slice, and apple turnover) in medieval style (no modern knife, fork, or spoon to assist you). Make sure you bring plenty of extra cash to buy banners to wave, souvenir programs, and photos taken during dinner. Beer, wine, sodas, and coffee are included in the admission price; however, these prices are subject to change and do not include gratuity for your hardworking serving wenches and serfs. Call the colorful castle for daily show times—advance reservations are required.
Make sure you arrive at least one hour before your scheduled show time to navigate the parking lot with your chariot and negotiate the check-in line.
This is outstanding family fun that is not to be missed—you and the kids can release all kinds of pent-up vocal energy as you yell for “your” knight in armor during a pageant of excellent horsemanship and tournament games of skill and accuracy.
You’ll eat in an arena filled with more than 1,100 people, divided into six sections, wearing colored hats, waving streamers, and cheering their favorite knight on to victory over the course of a two-hour eleventh-century show. A pricey outing, but we
think you definitely will agree that “your day’s not over until you’ve seen those knights!”
The experience is a lot of fun, the food is good, and the kids had a great time. Not sure it would be worth the full priced ticket, especially with a family of five. Maybe for a birthday or special occasion and with a coupon? But the show is really fun, and the kids really got into it.
We LOVE Medieval Times! The knight show will captivate the whole family, all ages. The little princess in your family will be mesmerized while they choose a girl out of the crowd. The dinner is pretty good and is eaten with fingers so your kids will love that. We loved cheering our knight along! The only downfall to this experience is that the tickets are outrageous. For just a few extra bucks we could have spent the whole day at Disney!
