"Fun with the Family"

People come from all over the island to use the boat harbor along the coast here at Maunalua Bay. On any given day you’ll see a dozen craft out in the water, some fishing, some waterskiing, some just cruising.
Commercial vendors have long used the calm waters here to take willing participants on parasailing trips and Jet-Ski and wave-runner rides. Parasailing involves being strapped onto a large parachute and lifted into the air by the boat’s forward momentum. You travel about 30 feet above the water and enjoy wonderful views, the wind in your hair, and a daring adventure.
Jet Skis and wave runners provide less passive adventures. Jet Skis are like motorized floating motorcycles on which the participant stands or kneels, turning a mechanism on the handlebars to make it go forward. Wave runners allow the rider to sit and are therefore a bit easier to manage. Rates vary, as do age requirements, so it’s best to call for more information.
The outlet based in Hawaii Kai is Aloha Ocean Sports (808-396–4899). For waterskiing enthusiasts, the Hawaii Sports Water Activity Center in Koko Marina Shopping Center will take all levels of expertise and specializes
in beginners. The fee is $59 and includes about a half hour on the water combined with on-land instruction and a descriptive video. There is no real age requirement; as long as your kids are water safe, they can learn to ski. For more information call 808-395–3773.
