Boring...Not much to this place. Neither we nor my toddler enjoyed it and she typically finds adventure everywhere we go.
Though, it's always fun to eat and what better place to get Macadamia nuts than at the factory itself. Especially when they sell their duds at a discounted price. Also, the Macadamia Nut Ice cteam was quite refreshing on a hot day.
This was a fun place to stop but I don't think the kids appreciated it, they were a little bored at the actual stop but they did enjoy driving through the Macadamia nut farm/orchard itself. The plant was closed the day we went there but we were able to look through the windows and it looked pretty cool.
The best part of this stop was the snacks! Yumm...I had to enjoy some of the freshes Macademia nut Ice Cream while I was there...That was really the theme of this trip...Macademia nuts...
but not worth a trip itself, I think. I love macadamia nuts as much as anyone, but watching them being cooked isn't very exciting. It's kind of like visiting any other factory, except it smells better and has a wonderful gift shop. But you can get out and stretch your legs, look through the windows down to the work areas and see what the workers are doing, and get good things to eat and drink. (NOTE: this is based on a trip about 15 years ago, and they might have upgraded the experience since then.)
No doubt the macadamia is Hawaii’s most famous nut. Visit the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Mill for the opportunity to see how the machines crack the tough hull and harvest this tasty treat. You can watch a free video that fully explains the process and then take a self-guided tour among the orchards. Especially wonderful are the macadamia treats at the snack shop.
