"great for teens"

would not bring little guys here b/c much of it is "look but don't touch" but teens love it! theres a room with a huge concrete ball in it that takes up almost the whole room---it's cool just to stand there and hug the ball that is very cool to the touch...other rooms have interesting displays of lights...it doesn't take long to go through so don't plan on spending a whole day--maybe just an hour.

"Fun with the Family"

The Mattress Factory is a museum of contemporary installation art that presents “art you can get into” created by in-residence artists. Located on Pittsburgh’s North Side since 1977, the Mattress Factory is one of few museums of its kind anywhere. Visitors of all ages examine the unique nature of site-specific art and explore a range of nontraditional media and environments—from recorded sound and running water to mirrored rooms and projected light. The museum’s multisensory permanent collection includes works by Yayoi Kusama, Rolf Julius, Winifred Lutz, and more.

The Mattress Factory offers a variety of Family Fun Activities. During ARTLab, families can participate in thematic art-making projects that illuminate the creative process. ARTlab activities are offered on the first and third Saturdays of every month, noon to 3:00 P.M., free with suggested admission. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Check the Web site for listings of exhibitions and events, including youth art classes, family days, and public forums.

"Awesome!"

Yes! Take the kids here! Talk about awesome alternative installation art. This place is chocked full of progressive, sensory experiences that will leave you reeling. This was such a college hang out back in the day for me, but my kids enjoy it now, too!
