We enjoyed a free visit thanks to the ASTC Passport program and our science center membership from home. Our almost four year old daughter LOVED the dinosaur area on the first floor, especially where she could uncover fossils! Another highlight was the kids area on the third floor...lots of activities for the younger visitors. This was a fun addition to our visit to the Inner Harbor.
The Science Center certainly has had a facelift since I was a child visitor! My daughter and I visited the Science Center in the fall and I was surprised and pleased with the newest additions. The museum has specific areas to appeal to children of different ages. I was happy to see an area for toddlers and preschoolers. During certain times of the season, admission on Fridays after 5pm goes down to $5, which makes it extremely affordable. The planetarium is amazing, and the three story tall IMAX screen is stunning!
The Maryland Science Center offers tons of exhibits for "children" of all ages. I was amazed by all of the fun facts that I learned on our trip. My son really enjoys the learning area for younger children. I absolutely LOVED that they had a semi-private area to breastfeed. There is lots to do and definitely not something you could see in one visit. We bought a membership and have been several times this year. SO worth the money!
Loved this museum. Totally interactive, and has a kids room available to play. Price isnt great, but not really bad. Definately worth the cost. IMAX available, but not needed to fill the day. It has activities for every age group, and definately fun!
While the real draw of this museum is probably for older kids, we were able to take our 19 month old here. The museum has multiple levels, and different types/themes of exhibits on each floor. The top floor has a play area for toddlers/infants to play in and explore. There is an extensive water table, complete with water proof smocks for the kids to wear while playing. We just joined as members, and go regularly.
me being a scientist personally i love the science center! we took our 2 year old and she had a blast with the hands on activities. the best part of the science center for her was the water area where she got to put on a smock and play in their oversized water table. i think she will enjoy it more as she gets a little older but it was still fun even for a small tot!
This is a great place for all ages. They have many different areas of scientific studies. We learned about dinosaurs, weather, etc etc. My 8 year old even got to lay on a bed of nails. Even the gift shop was full of neat stuff and the prices were not bad at all.
There is a kids room on the top floor! Check it out! It closes earlier than the rest of the building, so check the website or call to be sure. The kids room is awesome, there are so many different stations. A train table, a huge water table area, a cave type area, a baby room and more! The rest of the place is cool too!
We actually have a membership here and you should check their website because The Maryland Science Center welcomes members from participating ASTC Passport Program institutions. http://www.marylandsciencecenter.org/get-involved/Membership/Main.html
We love it here for many reasons...the foremost being the Kids Room, which even has a separate room for children under 24 months to explore. You can nurse your baby if you need to in comfort with a boppy pillow they supply. They have a water table, train table, staff everywhere, and a gated entrance that is manned at all times by a staff member, just to name a few. I cannot say enough about this place. Definately worth it!!!
If you are visiting the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, don't miss a visit to the Maryland Science Center. After a massive renovation/addition, the Science Center has interesting, interactive exhibits for kids of all ages. For the little ones, the Kids' Room is a blast. They can "fish," play in an underwater sub, see themselves on the big screen, and splash in the water table. The space is contained (with an attendant at the door), so the kids can roam a bit. There also is a playroom for infants/young toddlers that is a safe, fun, less hectic place for them to play, as well as daily science demonstrations. The exhibits for the older crowd are also cool - we especially love the Knex area, where kids can build all sorts of contraptions, and the "new" dinosaur wing. There also is an IMAX theater (extra charge) and a great planetarium show. This science museum definitely is worth a visit. (Also, remember that if you are a member of another science museum with reciprocal membership privileges, admission is free.)
