"Wouldn't take kids"

I loved walking around this area with my husband and we ate at a reasonably-priced seafood restaurant, but I don't think it would be great for kids, especially younger ones (if your kids love walking around docks or old stores, then maybe). There was a nice park-type area with a fountain that we stopped and sat around for a while and there were some young kids in the area playing, but as far the markets and shops go they are pretty small and not-so kid friendly. It's also a little bit of a trek from the Metro, so having small ones walking would slow you down quite a bit.

"Lots to do"

While it doesn't cost anything to GO there, some of the activities will definitely cost you money. Parking is limited and pricey and restaurants are expensive. There are toy shops, ice cream shops, all kinds of food, parks, a dock, a ghost tour, etc, so it really has lots to offer!

"Nice shops, restaurants"

I love going to Old Town when I'm visiting. There are a lot of nice shops there and restaurants. It's about as kid friendly as any shopping area can be, but if your kids are controllable they are definitely welcome. There are some nice bookstores, toy stores and treat stores that might be a bribe to get the kids through the other stores!

"Fun with the Family"

The front of Carlyle’s house faces what is still among the oldest continuing markets in the country. If you’re up early on a Saturday, between 5:00 and 10:30 a.m., browse the stalls set up for fresh bread, pastries, and fruit. Kids like the happy commotion and cheap eats.

"Nice area to stroll"

My favorite place is near boat dock, where there are always music and some activities. King St and Union St mark the center of Old Town. From there, you can check out Old Torpedo Factory, which houses artists and their works, and thus could be too much for little kids. There is boat dock, food court, the Charter House restaurant, a cruise boat, and Founders Park. One hour should be plenty, and there are plenty of park benches.
Parking could be tough, especially during dinner rush hour.
