3rd Weekend in October usually
The Maple Leaf Festival takes place in Baldwin City at the end of October. Numerous vendors provide food, crafts, games, and there are a lot of interesting/creative things on sale in the stands that line the streets. Many stands are also located indoors, so you can browse inside if the weather is not optimal.
There is usually a parade, and train rides are available for purchase. A free tram/shuttle can take you from the satellite parking lots to the festival, and in between distant points within the festival itself, which is great if your children (or you!) get tired after walking/standing. There is live music and a carnival area for entertainment, and plenty of food vendors attend each year. The Maple Leaf Festival is a great event to check out and there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Maple Leaf Festival is usually the third weekend (Friday-Sunday) in October when the trees are stunning. The Festival takes place on and around Baker Univeristy campus.
This festival has it all: around 300 craft booths, food booths, a quilt show, quilt lecture, live music, carnival, and kids zone. There is also a parade and the Midland Railroad usually puts on a special ride for the festival for your kids who love trains. There is something for everyone and we truly love this festival. Most of the vendors and events are located inside buildings so if it turns out rainy or cold that weekend it doesn't really matter.
One of the things I love best is how well organized and put together this event is. There are bathrooms everywhere, a tram that will run you from building to buiding (it is certainly walkable, but by the end of the day or if you have preschoolers that tire easy this is great). You can park on the streets surrounding the festival (unless otherwise marked of course) or even better park in one of their two or three satellite parking lots and take their bus into the festival area.
Many of the events are free. The carnival rides and some of the things in the kid zone have a small fee. The train rides are usually $3 and $5 for kids and adult tickets.
