Our birthday parties are held in the Art Gallery Cafe. We have tables and chairs to accommodate up to 70 people. The room will be set up in whatever arrangement works best for your individual party. Bring your own decorations to make the room special for that birthday party person.
I love going here with my girlfriends and our kids. This place is very family friendly and also has a couple spots to eat as well, including a wonderful full-service restaurant, Monarchs.
The conservatory is huge; it is so relaxing and there are thousands of different live butterflies. The best part is that they're open year round, the building is temperature controlled to 80 degrees. This is THE place to go on a winter or rainy day.
There are lots of benches, a gazebo, and in addition to all of the different butterflies there are also various lizards, turtles, and exotic insects. My daughter was in love with all of the little button quail birds running around freely in the aisles.
Fun, educational, and relaxing, with plenty for the kids to do, there is also face-painting, finger painting, and a caricature artist on the weekends. I really love this place, it is one of Western Massachusetts' hidden treasures!
We love to make the drive to Magic Wings in the winter when it's too cold outside to do anything else. It's like entering a tropical jungle and lets you forget about the snow outside for awhile. Walking among the butterflies is indescribable...they fly all around you and even land on you at times. They have many varieties of butterflies, and also have birds and an iguana. There is a wall of cocoons that you can observe, with butterflies emerging right before your eyes. A cafe is attached, and they even offer birthday parties. We like to make a day out of the trip and visit the Yankee Candle Flagship right down the street afterward.
The kids love being surrounded by the butterflies! There is a small museum to explore before going in to see the butterflies. There is also a video that is well made, but doesn't keep the younger kids attention very well. Inside there is always something new. Time of year affects what kinds of butterflies are flying about. They also had amazingly beautiful flowers to look at and take pictures of. It's crowded every time we go, so be aware of that. It's a busy place! Nice gift shop, a little pricey for what you get. The food is cafeteria style and a little expensive for what you get.
We go to Magic wings every year in April. The kids love to have the butterflies land on them. They also have some lizards and other insects on site. There is also usually chicks hatching. You can easily spend a couple of hours looking at the butterflies, taking pictures and waiting to have one land on you. Be prepared..it is hot and muggy. If you want one to land on you wear a flower colored shirt and put a little apple or pineapple juice on the backs of your hands. BUT do not touch the butterflies.
The 8,000-square-foot Magic Wings conservatory is planted with exotic vegetation and holds within it butterflies that are both native and tropical. Imagine if you will, hundreds of butterflies (more than 4,000) silently fluttering by, unaware of their grace and beauty and the delight that they bring to all ages. Do not be surprised if a buttefly alights upon you; a truly magical moment. The grounds have one and a half acres of gardens with native trees and flowers along with quiet little resting places to view nature’s bounty. Reptiles, birds, and bugs are recent additions
