This is a large playground based on a castle and dragon theme. The main climbing "castle" structure in the middle is about 2 stories up with a long metal slide for the big kids. Surrounding the castle is a huge area with lots of that bouncy rubber material and tan bark for the kids to run around. You'll find swings, slides, rocking horses, dragons and tunnels scattered all around the moat area where the purple dragon lives.
Restrooms and lots of picnic areas near by.
This place is located beautifully, and has lots of play structures for kids 2 and above. My 4 year old had a great time going down the magic mountain slide, and loved the different options at the ground level to start his climb up. There are also other play structures I don't see that often like a wooden trampoline, and a zipline (along with the usual swings)
You could pack some picnic lunch, and there are tables on the side to eat and have your kids take few mins break before they get back to the fun!
Group reservations are also possible nearby the playground, and there are paths to bike/hike as well. We went on a foggy day, but the views were still pretty (whenever the fog separated) Overall a great place to spend a day, would definitely go back.
This is a great playground because there is space for older kids (3+) and another playground for babies and toddlers. I have two boys 3.5 and 1.5 and they were perfectly happy in toddler area. There were plenty of swings, slides and bouncy rides. My older son also ventured into the big kid area and loved climbing and sliding down the "Magic Mountain" slides. There are lots of picnic tables so be sure to bring along plenty of snacks for the kids. There is a lot of green space where kids can free play and run around and ducks and geese roaming freely. The area is beautiful. It can be very windy because it is so close to the water so be sure to dress in layers even in the summertime. The Coyote Point Museum is also close by and worth seeing (set aside a few hours for the museum) but you have to drive a few minutes to get there.
Before having kids, I used to head over to the Coyote Point Recreation Area for golf with my then boyfriend, now husband. Now that we have kids, we noticed that there was a cool playground there called Magic Mountain and went to check it out this morning. It's sooo cool and a great playground for kids!
When you drive up, all you see is the 2 story tall "castle" and a long metal tube slide where all the big kids are (not sure if the slide gets hot in the sun, but it was fine today in 75 degree weather). The yard is cleverly divided into two play areas. The front area is completed fenced in and the play structures are about 1/3 of the size of the equipment on the other side of the fence. This is a great area for kids under 5 to play because the slides are less tall and scary and there are several bucket swings for the smaller tikes.
On the other side, is the big kids area for kids 3 and up. The area is contoured with some fun hills to run up and down where my 2 year spent most of his time (the hills are a bit steep for him, so he definitely wiped out a couple of times). The dragon heads are fun to climb on and the climbing structure is quite impressive with ropes and ladders and stairs to get to the highest tower of the castle. There are several lower slides to go down in case the bigger one is a bit much. There are lots of older kids, so keep your little ones close to protect them from being smooshed.
FYI. There are no sand pits, so don't bother bringing the sand toys. If your kids want to play with sand, there's a small, little play structure in Rec. 7 that has sand. There's of course the beach too. This park is often really windy since it's right off the water, so kite flying is very popular here.
Right outside the play area you'll find lots of open grass space, picnic and bbq pits as well as restrooms. Just behind the picnic tables, you'll find the beach shack where you can pick up a quick snack. Since this is the beach, I was told that during certain times of the year, there is quite an impressive display of goose poop which gets on everything from the grass to the tables and more. We didn't notice any when we were there today, so maybe it's only in the fall.
The park is also located right next to SFO, so there's a steady stream of 747s landing and taking off much to my toddler's joy. There's not much shade, so be sure to bring hats and sunscreen.
The Coyote Point Museum is just a little drive away, but unfortunately not within walking distance.
Definitely worth a visit.
