"Closest to the stars you'll get while in Hollywood!"

I haven't been to a wax museum for over 30 years, so I was really excited to see Madame Tusseaud's. What a fun experience! As opposed to the Hollywood Wax Museum where all of the displays are safely arranged behind velvet ropes for you to enjoy with your eyes, Madame Tusseaud's actually encourages full-on interaction with their figures. Located on Hollywood Boulevard adjacent to Grauman's Chinese Theater (where countless the starts have immortalized their hand & footprints), Madame Tusseaud's is perfect to add to any day trip to Hollywood.

Be prepared - the lines to get in are quite long. As we had will call tickets, we were thankfully whisked past the ticket queue to the entrance queue. The ticket line appeared to be about 20-30 minutes long. The second entrance line is about 15 minutes long. Note that you can get a substantial (20%) discount and skip the long ticket line if you purchase your tickets online rather than at the door.

After you have a photo taken with either President Obama or Marilyn Monroe, you take an elevator to the 5th floor to begin your tour. The top floor is set up much like an A-List party. Music & light effects surround you as you walk the floor & mingle with the likes of the Jolie-Pitts, Jennifer Aniston, Nic Cage, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, Britney Spears, Madonna & more. Take a seat on the couch next to Simon Cowell or sit at the bar & be interviewed by Ryan Seacrest. Put your arms around the figures, hold their hands, pose with them...just don't touch their face or hair (as you are warned before the tour starts).

The rooms are set up for you to tour at your own pace. Some displays have props (hats & scarves) for you to use in your photos. Your tour progresses downward via stairs from the 5th to the 2nd floor. There are several Sections along the way.

In the "Spirit of Hollywood" you'll enjoy such figures as Shirley Temple, Charlie Chaplin, James Dean, Bette Davis, Vivian Leigh, and more. Interactive scenes include the Ten Commandments, Psycho, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Gone With the Wind, Cleopatra & Barbarella.

In "Making Movies" you'll see sit in Steven Spielberg's Director's chair, watch Quentin Tarantino film a scene from Kill Bill with Uma Thurman, and pose with Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Westerns" and "Crime" share a floor. Saddle up & pose with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford or Paul Newman. Proceed on for a "sit down" with the Godfather, Marlon Brando where he makes you an offer you can't refuse. Al Pacino, Robert De Niro & Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Hannibal Lechter round out the Crime display. NOTE: this is not even close to scary. Even the littlest ones will be fine.

The "Modern Classics" section is lost on anyone under 30, but is a blast for those of us who grew up with these shows. Command the Enterprise with a pre-Priceline William Shatner, sit on the park bench with Forrest Gump, complete with a box of chocolates, try to copy Eddie Murphy's infectious grin as Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop, pose as Mrs. Robinson with Dustin Hoffman, or don the fighter's robe & hit the ring with Rocky. There's even something for the Gleek in all of us!

The last main display is the floor containing "Sports" and "Action Heroes.” Catch air with Tony Hawk, ride next to Lance Armstrong, shoot hoops with Kobe and take pointers from Tiger. Be sure to pose with Spiderman & note that the display is built upside down - flip your digital photo when you get home to make it look like you’re walking on the ceiling with him! You'll also see the Terminator, Iron Man & The Rock.

The tour winds up with a mildly interesting "Behind the Scenes" display of how the figures are made. You can pay $15 to have your hand dipped in wax for posterity - a big hit with the kids.

You exit the tour through an "Awards Ceremony" where you take the stage with Halle Berry, share a laugh in the audience with Jack Nicholson, or hobnob with Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep & Morgan Freeman.

The real disappointment with this tour is the Michael Jackson Experience. Only three figures of M.J. representing different times in his career are tucked away in a passage between the main exhibits with his music piped in the background. The figures aren't set up for interaction like the rest of the museum.  I would hardly call it an "experience." If you're going solely for this part of the exhibit, don't. You'll be quite disappointed.

Overall, this is a total blast & fun for everyone. I have to admit that my almost 8-year-old didn't know a lot of the figures, but she had an absolute ball interacting with them. The ideal minimum age where kids would really "get it" would be about 11-13. The location is absolutely ideal.
There is $10 all-day valet parking in the garage on Orange Drive (immediately past the museum) & the elevator takes you directly to the doors.

If you have the time, brave the craziness of Hollywood Boulevard afterward. You can visit Grauman's, see the stars on the Walk of Fame, have a treat at the Disney Soda Shop across the street or just people-watch. NOTE: the impersonators on Hollywood Blvd are there to make money. Don't expect to pose with them for a photo -op without shelling out a few bucks as a "tip." Keep your belongings (and kids) close.

This review is based on complimentary tickets to Madame Tusseaud's Hollywood. I received no other compensation besides admission and the museum did not state any requirements that I express a particular point of view.

"Good times"

We went here because we were visiting Hollywood for the first time.  Our friend got us in for a good deal because he bought our tickets on discounts4fun.com and we saved 25%.  My favorite wax figures are of Johnny Depp (jack sparrow) and Brad and Angelina.

"A fun way to see stars on Hollywood Blvd"

We went to Madame Tussauds with our niece and nephew as part of their tour of Hollywood and actually had alot of fun. The  wax people are incredible and it was fun to pose with them and take pictures. The museum is very hands on (just don't touch their hair or faces) and covers new Hollywood, Old Hollywood, singers, and even a few sport stars. It is a bit pricey but if you love celebrity then I think its worth it.
