This valley produces a good part of the world’s flower seeds. More than 1,000 acres are covered with more than 200 varieties of flowers, including marigolds, asters, larspur, calendula, lavender, and cornflowers. To help “blooming idiots” identify these gems, there is a helpful, fully labeled display garden. The Lompoc Flower Festival is held every June to celebrate this incredible presentation of nature (www.flower festival.org).
