"Cute place but leaves me wanting more"

This museusm is the first of its kind west of the Rockies. It is dedicated to the steam engine locomotive. There are interesting train artifacts and some small scale train models built by the museum's founder. Highlights for our family though were being able to board a 1902 Southern Pacific and see what is was like to be an engineer of this train or to board a 1910 Union Pacific Caboose and see how the train crew lived while on the train. Great photo opps! My little guy also really liked putting coins into the donation bank to hear and see the railroad sign light up. There are two more trains in the annex park across the street and one in the grassy park, but you can't board any of these. The staff person was very nice and helpful.

We did enjoy this little museum, but just wish it was a little bigger. You can see the whole museum and go on the trains in 20-30 minutes. There are plans for expansion. If you're in the South Bay area anyway, it's a cute little place to see, but it's not a place to go out of your way to see if you're coming from further away. Admission for adults is $4 and for kids it's $2.
