Locust Walk is the main pedestrian walk which runs through the center of the University of Pennsylvania. The University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin and is one of the eight ivy league schools. Penn boasts the nation's first medical school and was also the birthplace of modern computing with the ENIAC computer (a part of which can be seen in the foyer of the engineering building). The walk itself was once part of Locust Street and is the heart of the campus. Many beautiful gothic style buildings line the walk, including the marvelous Fisher Fine Arts Library designed by Frank Furness, Irvine Auditorium, Houston Hall, and the Psi Upsilon Castle that overlooks the college green. Other notable buildings include the Quadrangle a block over on Spruce Street. There are a number of museums on campus, including the fabulous University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology and the Institute of Contemporary Art.
