My husband and i have taken the kids here for many of the free concerts they offer on the weekends. Put out a blanket and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy. We have always had a good time at the concerts and walking on the grounds. My daughter's have been on field trips to The Samuel Morse Historic Site. One year, I was a chaperone. The class had a great time learning about Samuel Morse and practicing the Morse code.
Locust Grove, the nineteenth-century summer home of telegraph and Morse code inventor Samuel Morse, is an octagonal Tuscan villa chock-full of antiques, art, and historical memorabilia as well as changing exhibits of toys, dolls, and costumes. Morse considered painting his primary career and regarded his inventions as simply a way of paying the bills. Special events include a Civil War Encampment in May. Extensive gardens surround the estate, and the 145-acre Young Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary next door offers short hiking trails.
