Lots of fun for our family (4 kids ages 4-9) at Legoland! I have to admit that I was nervous about waiting in line for everything, based on the reviews from last fall and winter 2011. I have good news for you about that, at least for the timing of our visit :)
We visited in early May on a sunny day where temps reached the low to mid-80's. The lines were terrific -- we didn't wait a single time all day, except for the water ride, which probably tells you something about the heat in the park. There is very little shade in parts of the park (the driving rides, near the water ride, etc.) and the heat bouncing off the pavement can be brutal. During this same trip we didn't have the same heat problems at Disney or Universal, so I'm guessing that Legoland just hasn't been through a summer yet to realize that they're going to have to add some shady spots to keep people at the park from passing out. In fairness, it's going to take a few years for their landscaping to mature.
Other than the water ride, waiting time was 0 minutes for pretty much everything, and we went on many rides 2-3-4 or 5 times. The advertising for "pink-knuckle fun" is about right. Our adventurous 8 year old was happy that she wasn't excluded from anything for her height.
In all, it's a fun park. It's certainly no Disney nor Universal nor Sea World, but it can be a fun day. We especially loved the picnic grove overlooking the Safari Trek. We watched several unsuspecting guests get squirted with water by the Lego elephants.
Just be ready for the heat in the park if you visit on a warm sunny day.
My son, being the Lego fan that he is, was super excited that a Legoland park had opened here in Florida. We went right before New Year's Eve and the park was beautifully decorated. The rides were geared for small kids, to the point that my son, who is 11, felt too old for most of the rides except for the rollercoasters. However, there are lots of Lego stores sprinkled around the park, which my son took full advantage of. My poor daughter (14) seem to only enjoy the rollercoasters, the Lego replicas of different cities, and the fireworks display at the end of the night. Overall, if you have kids that are 11 and under who love Lego, then you've got to visit the park. Enjoy!
Let me first start by saying I was neurvous after reading ALL the reviews on the net about Legoland, but to my families surprise, IT WAS AWESOME! AWESOME in EVERY way, NO waits times on ANY rides, VERY friendly staffers, CLEAN park, AMAZING Lego displays EVERY WHERE! Yes, it's definetly targeted to 5-12. Know that ahead of time, and expect that. Actually it was refreshing to have it that way! We were blown away by everything. The 10-5 hours weren't a problem, bc there were no waites. The Pirate show was spectatular, the interactive building activities were awesome too! Did I mention it was AWESOME! We are from Atl, and it was well worth the drive. The 45 mins from Orlando was a breeze! My family is a tough crowd, we don't love everything, but at LEGOLAND it was a day of LOVE!
We had our son's 10th. birthday party at Legoland, FL and it was a terrible disappointment!!
I had been sent a confirmation email for the party from Legoland. In the very first sentence, it stated that there was limited room inside their birthday "tents". I was a little surprised to read this since the "Ultimate Birthday Party" I had booked was supposed to be in a private party room... I made a note to ask about this and the day before birthday party , I called to take care of last minute details. The birthday rep., Shannon Crawford, had terrible people skills. When I inquired if we would be in a private room or in a tent, her answer to me was, "Where would you get an idea like that from? We don't even own tents!!" I explained about the email and asked her for her email address so that she would be able to see what I was talking about. She responded with the same bad attitude to most of my questions. The assistance she provided was so poor and her overall tone was so rude, when we ended our phone call, I called Legoland back. I asked to speak to a manager. I requested that she not interface with my guests at my party.
When we arrived at the front gate, we picked up our tickets and the attendant explained that we should get to our party room about 15 min. before our scheduled 1:00 time slot. We were were given general directions of the birthday party room's location.
As it got closer to the party time, we started asking park employees where the birthday party room was. No one we spoke to knew where the birthday party room was. After our third failed attempt, we were lucky to find a very helpful employee with a radio, Jeffrey. Finally- a professional employee who took the time to help us. He contacted a manger thru his radio for us. The person who he spoke with first told him that we were scheduled to have our party at 11:00. Wow! I got so stressed out!! I explained to him that we had the 1:00 time slot. The manager told him that they would find out for us and called back about 4 or 5 minutes later and said that yes, we did indeed have our party scheduled for the 1:00 and we were finally given the correct directions to find the party room (which is located inside the Market restaurant in a private room). Jeffrey told us that the manager would send a character to our party to make up for all of the confusion.
The party room was clean and very nicely decorated, I was very pleased when we saw it. The young lady that was our server, Mylicia, was very sweet and tried very hard to take care of all of our guests. When I asked her about the character appearance, she explained to me that they had taken a break and would not be back until 3:00, well after our party would be over. I asked her if she would be able to find someone for us and that it didn't matter who it was. She came back in about ten minutes and told me that someone would be coming. "Max" , a life-size mini-figure, came with professional park photographers. He stayed for about ten minutes- which gave all of the kids the chance to take a picture, so that worked out very nicely, in the end.
We were served salad and personal pan pizzas, which were tasty and good sized-portions. I didn't really like the way the "unlimited" drinks were served. Everyone was given HUGE drink cups (including our 3 1/2 year old guest) and we had to go out of our party room to the cafeteria to serve our own drinks or if we wanted a refill. At one point, one of the boys left for a refill and didn't tell anyone he was going to the cafeteria, so it was a tense 2 or 3 mins until we found him...
When the cake was brought out- it wasn't a cake which would feed my 21 guests but 2 VERY small cakes, not at all what is advertised when you book your party. They bring the cake out in a black cart- which didn't make for very nice pictures at all. Our server then explained that they were all out of candles. I didn't want to make a big deal about this so that my son wouldn't catch on but I was very upset about this whole thing , especially when all the guests where asking where the candles where. So when it was time to sing happy birthday to my son, there was NO CANDLE FOR HIM TO BLOW OUT!! Very disappointing for our little guy!! This was unbelievable!!
Overall, we spent over $1000 ($57 plus tax pp) for the "Ultimate Birthday Party" which in the end was disappointing. If you want a stress-free party, that runs very smoothly, this is not the place for you at all. Not to mention the whole cake thing-which was completely unacceptable, in my opinion!
Oh- my little guy did get to blow out his birthday candle - we got him a cake that night and sang him "Happy Birthday" as he blew out his candles at home...

Of course Miniland was wonderful. We read reviews to wait until the end of the day to see this and are glad that we did. It was not at all crowded at the end of the day and we were able to stay at least 45 past closing time still looking at it - they did not rush us out!
The roller coasters were good for older young kids that don't like the terrifying coasters at the big parks - they looked like the big ones but seemed much more controlled - so a great introduction.
The imagination building was limited to constructing a lego car - so rectangle bricks and wheels and tracks. I was expecting much more.
I loved that some of the rides were manual powered or assisted.
My kids loved the driving school. Basically it was little electric cars. But they had working stop lights that somehow made it really fun.
The pizza place that got good reviews was TERRIBLE!!! Cici's pizza on a bad bad day. Pasta consisted of 2 choices - penne with marinara or bologna sauce - wow. The pizza was so bad that even my kids chose not to eat it. Salad bar was limited but good. We found some of the pizza toppings in there to make a meal - pineapple, ham, etc.
The models around the park were INCREDIBLE!
And a nice touch was that when there were lines, they had a little area off to the side of the lines with tabletops and buckets of duplos to keep kids occupied while parents waited in the line - nice touch!
The slogan for this place should be "The slowest park in Florida." Our day started at the General Admission Ticket line. There were approximately 15 people in front of us when we arrived promptly at 10:00 AM. IT TOOK AN HOUR TO GET TO THE BOOTH! There are several ticket booths arranged side-by-side but there is no exit path except for one of them. Therefore, people have to clamor over tape barriers and through one another to exit the ticket booth areas.
At the Royal Joust the line time was roughly 40 minutes. Then the ride stopped for 10 minutes leaving kids stranded (single person ride) in the middle of field.
The Dragon….cool little coaster ride for kids. IT TOOK 1 HOUR AND 40 MINUTES TO GET ON!! My four year old was sitting on the ground by the time we got to the ride.
For lunch we decided hit the Castle Burger. The food actually wasn’t too bad and the kid’s meal included fresh apples which was nice, but again sloooow. We were about the 8th person in one of the lines and it took nearly 45 minutes to reach the front. There are also only a handful of tables to sit at and eat so during the lunch hours there’s a crowd of people standing around with trays in their hands and no place to sit.
It seems that Legoland was able to do one thing right. They setup their pricing to look just like Disney…$12 parking, $80 general admission adult, $70 for children, yet their overall efficiency is terrible and their rides are cheesy. I’ll be taking my next $ and kids to Disney before I go back to Legoland.
Overpriced for a park that is open 10-5. Long lines. Staff is undertrained and overwhelmed. Several restaurants are closed- not fun when you walk clear across the park for "chicken" to find no sign. The clincher for me was the Big Lego store near the exit. We had promised the boys to get a "lego" at the end of the day. I guess everyone had the same idea- though it was only 4pm. There were only 3 of 12 registers open and 26 people in line! I spoke to "Matt" the on duty manager and was told he didn't have any more personnel. A nice african american employee told me they are allowed to pull from other stores, although Matt acted as if he didn't know about this.. You cannot use your VIP lego card because Legoland is not owned or operated by LEGO! Merlin Enteretainments does. The park has only been open for a couple weeks- so there is a learning curve. The souvenir "penny" that costs 51 cents- flattens the penny but doesn't emboss. Just added insult to injury. GET RID OF THE CARNIVAL GAMES! This is a park for kids! I spent $24 on the basketball game- my kid wanted a Spongebob. Not every play wins a price! Not like Disney- they don't care if you have a magical day! Not sure they will be able to compete with parks in Orlando
There's plenty to do in this central Florida amusement park whether you enjoy the "pink-knuckle" roller coasters, the interactive rides and shows, 4D movies, the botanical gardens, or staring in awe at the thousands of Lego creations in Miniland and scattered throughout the park.
For the youngest visitors, Duplo village offers tot-sized play and rides, and the rest of the park is best for the 5-12 set.
The park is small enough that it's possible to zigzag back and forth to catch the various shows or for one more ride on a favorite coaster. Food vendors are also scattered throughout the park.
My visit to Legoland Florida was hosted as part of their grand opening celebration, but after spending two busy days in the park by myself, I'm eager to return with my kids. I have several specific reviews of the park on my Travels with Children blog, http://minnemom.com.
We attended the Grand Opening of LEGOLAND Florida and it is a lego lover's paradise. I recommend a trip to LEGOLAND even if all you do is check out the lego sculptures around the park and wander through Cypress Gardens.
LEGOLAND is directed towards children ages 2-12. My children are 4 and 7 and they are the perfect age in my opinion. We rode every ride except for the roller coasters. I liked that my 7yo was tall enough to ride almost every ride by himself. I also liked that we didn't have to tell my 4yo that once again she was too short to ride a ride. Though I had to ride with her on most rides, she was able to ride every ride she wanted to.
The kids loved the Beetle Bounce, the Aquazone Wave Riders, and Ford Driving School the best. Be prepared to disappoint the little ones because children must be 6 to participate in driving school. There is a Jr. Driving School right next door and my daughter was just fine doing that!
Make sure to stop by the LEGO Factory because after viewing how LEGO bricks are made, kids will receive a special LEGOLAND FL brick - a free souvenir! Also, if you bring a minifigure from home or purchase one for $2.99 in the shops, your kids can trade them with the employees.
My biggest complaint is that a lot of the rides are ones that have to be loaded, then the ride runs, then the visitors are unloaded, new riders loaded, and so on. Because of this, it seemed like a lot of the lines were long but at least the line time signs were pretty accurate.
I loved wandering through Cypress Gardens but my children were not as impressed. They wanted to continue riding rides. My daughter was thrilled when she found the belle dressed in blue though!
There are a bunch of different meal choices. We tried both the pizza/pasta buffet a lunch at the Market Place. Both choices were delicious but we found the Market Place to be less money. For just under ten dollars, I got a large piece of roasted chicken, rice and potatoes that my daughter and I ate and my son had a chicken nugget kid's meal.
*LEGOLAND hosted my family during a media visit. All opinions are my own with no outside influences.
I went to LegoLand Florida today 10/21/2011 with my 6 yr old. At first I thought we were in for a bad day as upon entering and paying my $12.00 for parking I asked a attendant for a handicap parking place ,I was told ( without him even calling on the radio to check ) that the Handicap parking lot was full, now I read where the one person said it was a short walk,as I have a broken back and neck , it was a way further that a short walk maybe he/she needs to go back to school and learn how to measure distances)at but the attendant had me park in row red 4 which was approx 2 football fields from the main gate, after I parked and started walking they started parking people in a new row which started within 100 ft of the main gate , then as I passed the Handicap lot I looked and counted over 8 spots open,we then waited about 30 mins to get our tickets during which time some employees came by and asked for all who had bought tickets online or through a promotion and took them up front, the rest of us they started handing out empty Mt Dew and Pepsi cans with free admission coupons( Buy one adult ticket get one $65.00 child ticket free)from there it was just a blast for my son , in the 8 hrs we were there he seen the Pirates bay water skiing show(Which brought back some old memories of my visit to Cyprus Gardens when I was a Child)which was carried out with audience participation and all there had a great time, same went for the rest of the park , yes on some rides there was quite a wait ,but the only delay's I seen was when a attendant had a safety strap that he felt was not fastened well enough and held the ride up until it was safe for the person to ride. My experiences with the rest of the staff was nothing as was said by a couple others , the staff ( except the one PL attendant ) was more than helpful one refused a tip for a very good caricature of my son ,and while the Park entrance price was a little High , it sure put a big smile on my child, so much so he begged me to bring him back again as soon as we can( we were not able to do a lot of things, due to time ,so we will be returning this spring or summer when there is less Tourist and by then they may have a discount price for Florida residents ,I will say this if you go to LegoLand with a Disney World attitude yes you will be disappointed ,this is a park for Children between 2 and 13 ( as it is billed to be)with rides geared towards the young and the young at heart , I took my son to Disney for his 5th B-day and while it was great ( as who could ever say anything bad about Disney) there were not that many rides that he could go on due to Height restrictions or it just seemed to be to Babyish to him , at least at LegoLand he was able to ride on just about every ride( there are some that are restricted to 5 and under )either with me accompanying him or many by himself ( which to him was a Big ,Big plus) while there are still things being worked out I'd still give this attraction a A- to a B+ hopefully by time we return it will be the A+ place many were expecting for a new attraction( this was the second week they have been open)
We went yesterday on a pass member preview day. The park is absolutely awesome for kids ages 6 to 12. I also have a 15 year old and he enjoyed it as well.
Drving School is a fun ride where kids can drive in a car by themselves. They are running stop signs and red lights and it is hilarious to watch! You can purchase a driver's license for them at the end of the ride.
All of the roller coasters are kid friendly. You do have to look on the website for height requirements before you go if you have little ones (under 6). Otherwise, it seems most kids over 6 will be able to do all of the rides. There aren't any that go upside down or too fast so my 6 and 8 year olds were the perfect ages to be able to enjoy everything.
There is a safari ride where you can see animals made out of Legos. Miniland is where you can see the NYC skyline, hot spots in Florida, Washington DC and more made out of Legos. The attention to detail is so cute, we spotted the Obama family standing on the steps of the White House.
We ate at the pizza buffet restaurant and pricing was 10.99 for adults and 6.99 for kids. The pizza was really good and being a buffet, everyone was able to eat as much as they wanted.
The waterski show features Lego figures skiing and Pirates! We saw the Clutch Powers 3D movie and it was really cute. There were 2 others that we will have to catch next time we go. We live 2 hours away and can't wait to go back!!
LEGOLAND Florida opened on October 15, 2011 on the former grounds of Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven. This theme park, the largest LEGOLAND in the world, is designed for children from 2-12. Fortunately, LEGOLAND architects and park designers carefully built the new park in harmony with the historic natural surroundings and restored the world famous botanical gardens. Each of the zones or theme areas offers amazing views of Lake Eloise. Throughout LEGOLAND, hundreds of moss-lined oak trees were preserved and offer shade from Florida’s sun.
We found so many fun things to explore that it was a challenge deciding what to do first. We chose to visit “LEGO Kingdoms” to ride The Dragon rollercoaster and Royal Joust. The Dragon starts off slowly winding inside a large castle as we rode past scenes of LEGO knights, a royal court, wizards, adorable mice, bats with red glowing eyes, and the big red star of the ride, an animated smoke spitting dragon! Then, the track leads outside and up a steep grade before twisting and turning beyond the castle walls. We laughed all the way and had to ride The Dragon again five more times before the day was over. The Royal Joust was another favorite with our six year old. She hopped on a horse as it whinnied and cantered through a Medieval LEGO village. She felt like a big kid because she was able to ride without having a parent tag along for safety. So, she chose to ride the Royal Joust a few times. We gladly waited and watched under the shady oak trees. The landscaping really is beautiful!
